After a couple of fantastic weeks in Cornwall last year we're toying with the idea of visiting Pembrokeshire / the Gower peninsular this year.

Have you any decent sites to recommend in that area? We've got the usual compliment of kids (10 & 7) but generally go for a nice quite site as opposed to sites with a club house etc.

Thanks in advance.

Freshwater East caravan club site is pretty good. 2 minute walk to the beach, quiet site with a kids playground area. Fairly central for runs out to Pembroke, etc.

An annual must do for us.

We love this place...

http://www.cenarthcampsite.co.uk/

Just in the edge of the village with the famous falls and coracles. There are 2 pubs which serve decent enough food plus a visitors centre, giftshop and tea rooms from memory.

If you have the car then you are close to loads of stuff.

I've done Lleithyr Farm near St David's in Pembrokeshire twice now, love it.

Cornwall is nice though, I'm heading there this year after my USA trip, but I'm 99% certain i'll head to Pembrokeshire again in 2018.

We are booked into this site in Aug 2017. Close proximity to the beach was the selling point. Any advice for whats good to do, places to visit etc? Thanks.

I live in Wales (actually in Cenarth where Oblio suggested you go a couple of posts up ^^^)

We often do 2 or 3 weekend camping trips in Pembrokeshire with the kids because it's close enough to get to on a Friday evening, throwing everything in the boot, without losing the light to get the tent up, but just far enough away to feel we aren't on our own doorstep.

Couple of points:

-I get the notional attraction of Cornwall, (I took the family for a week there a couple of years ago) but... I couldn't believe how crowded it was with very little benefit over Pembrokeshire. No room in any car parks, waiting an age at roundabouts to get out, and the A30 was a fking nightmare both ways. It's not like the 'kids day out' venues were staggeringly good.

-Pembrokeshire can get busy here and there (St David's in high season is overrun on a Saturday lunchtime) but English tourists' unwillingness to come to Wales in the same numbers is barking; maybe it's familiarity or Wales feeling somehow more distant, I dunno. Ironically Pembrokeshire is the most 'english' county in Wales.

-Some of the Pembs campsites are right on the coastal path with amazing views and sunsets. On the perfect still hot day this is great, but what looks idyllic on the internet can be much windier in real life and it can feel much colder and exposed compared to a site a mile inland.

-Pembrokeshire has a nice spread of traditional mowed lawn, caravan suburbia style sites (nothing wrong with that) -like www.tretio.com) to more alternative low volume sites such as http://hillfort-tipis.co.uk/ or http://www.trellyn.co.uk/ or trendy (and pricey) http://kitewoodcamping.co.uk/

So if you're booked and sorted now fair ennough, but do suggest to your missus she takes another look for next year!

Loads of great stuff..
Cornwall is booked for this summer now. We had a fantastic two weeks in Cornwall last summer and I`m guessing she`s playing safe (although we`re staying at two different sites...).

We`ve had good holidays in Snowdonia before so we`re happy with visiting Wales, in fact I loved Snowdonia.

I`m going to try and get her to do Pembrokeshire in the spring half term...

My kids are 11 and 9, I reckon your kids will love Folly Farm and Heatherton. St Davids Cathedral is interesting (and more fun than you might think for the kids). Castell Henllys is worth half a day and there are a few castles worth visiting (Carew/Pembroke etc).

Depending on weather and little walking legs one of the best days we had was walking up Carningli mountain. -Great views over Newport and Dinas head.

Pembrokeshire also does sleepy little villages in bays and coves very well. Take a look at Porthgain, Solva, Abercastle, Cwm Yr Eglwys and bring bring some crabbing kits for the kids (and maybe a cheap spinning rod for yourself if the mackerel are in...)

In terms of beaches this site is brilliant http://www.visitpembrokeshire.com/explore-pembroke... -and I use it even though I live here.

Sorry for the slow reply. We tend to like good walks and dog friendly beaches and places. We usually do...

Bosherston Lakes and through to the beach there.
Barafundle bay a great beach.
Freshwater West beach, huge beach.

Plus loads more beaches, most of which are dog friendly.

Funnily enough, I went to the USA and then decided on a last minute jaunt back to Whitesands bay at the end of the summer.

Didn't even book...just filled the van with instant porridges, 'smash', tinned sausages and curries and boil in bag rice....proper roughed it on the hill.

fking love the place. Last day the sea was so calm, I was paddleboarding a few hundred metres out at slack and could see so far down with loads of fish swimming beneath me...was amazing.

Don't forget the Dusty Knuckle in St Davids for your pizza yum

I'm now booked to go to Cornwall this year...there's a few remote, less touristy places I'm heading for, although I do want to visit the Minack theatre. Friends are coming and they have a dog, so we're restricted on beaches....no bad thing...I like finding my own beach!

There are plenty of year round dog friendly beaches in Cornwall. Whereabouts are you heading?

^ Freshwater East.

It was available for the dates we need (some of the others needed a Saturday to Saturday period during peak season) and it'll allow us to do the Dorset Steam Fair this year.

We had two weeks at Freshwater East last August. Its a great site, nice and quiet although its on a slope but with level terraces. 2 min walk to dog friendly beach which is very big and very quiet. Theres a very nice cafe that does great breakfasts etc next door to the site by some holiday homes.

Some beautiful beaches only a short drive away. If you want a main town with shops then Tenby really is nice, and its on a massive and beautiful beach.

The entrance to the site is to the right behind the sign, with the beach to the left..

Out set up..

The beach next to the site..

Barafundle Bay..

A short drive to Stockpole car park, then a 30 min walk...

Takes you to the beautiful Broadhaven beach..

At one of the beaches at Tenby..

Crabbing at Saundersfoot...

Mum and dad have had statics at Broad Haven Caravan Park for 30 odd years now. I love that corner of the UK. I'd actually fancy retiring to Little Haven around the corner (at low tide)
