We stayed on this site near Solva during the first week of August last year, they have a touring site behind the static site.

A bit windswept but we had a great time nonetheless.

For Gower the site at Three Cliffs Bay is stunning but very expensive.

There are plenty of year round dog friendly beaches in Cornwall. Whereabouts are you heading?
Heading towards the Minack theatre side of things, Gwithian has been recommended, so anywhere near there?

Also after a nice site where it's quite basic but pretty (if that makes sense?) don't need a pool or stuff, just nature!

That's further south than we normally go.

Constantine bay and Holywell bay are good for dogs, Holywell especially, it's National Trust so although it's near to Newquay it doesn't attract the normal Newquay crowd.

So to bring this to a conclusion we have just returned from a couple of weeks at the CC site at Freshwater East and it was pretty good.

The weather wasn't great but it didn't stop us doing anything really. We spent quite a bit of time at Freshwater West in the sea. It's not as crowded as Cornwall, is cheaper by far (taking into account parking charges and eating out) and the scenery is excellent.

The site was good despite my lad getting threatened by some feral child at the swings and all in all we'll visit Pembrokeshire again.

France next year!

I miss Pembrokeshire. Mum and dad spend near 3 months a year at their static in Broad Haven, they're just home last night in fact.

S and I haven't been for 2 years, on the flip side.

We stayed at Freshwater East a few months ago when we were house hunting in the area. Very convenient for the beach and also walk-able to a pub/resto too...which was closed when we went. All in all a nice C&MC site we thought

If you go back up the hill and turn right at the crossroads (or T junction - I can't remember), there is a very nice pub a few hundred metres down the road with cracking views!

^ The Freshwater Inn?

We went there on a Wednesday evening, arrived at 1830 and they couldn't even take a food order until 1930, it was all a little weird. They appeared to be unable to cope with the prospect of customers... I did manage a couple of nice pints of IPA there though while we waited and also met a nice Swedish family who were on holiday there.

Anyway, the food was OK, nothing special but the views were great.

Yes I remember when we went, they took our order then started telling everyone who arrived after that it would be another 45 mins before they started taking other orders! As you say, a bit strange...

I can't remember exactly what the grub was like - the Mrs said it was very nice and she is posher than me biggrin - but certainly not offensive!

We had a week in that sort of area in July, where we did three sites:

Three Cliffs Bay - the. best. bathrooms I've ever encountered on a campsite. Oh, and it was also a clifftop site with awesome views and access to a dog-friendly beach. Really well-stocked shop on-site.

Porthclais Farm - another clifftop site, but a (fair) bit more basic with the facilities. About 10 mins walk to St Davids, and the coastal path went up to Whitesands in one direction. Decent enough, but I don't think I've seen as many "Do this...", "Don't do this..." signs before.

Ty Gwyn - Lovely setting. The beach it's next to isn't dog-friendly during holiday season, but again there's a coastal path to walk and a mwnt.

We were lucky to have the really good spell of weather. Our friends went last week to similar locations and bailed after three days.

Would like to add my recommendation of Celtic Camping in Haverfordwest. The owner (Ian) was very helpful and friendly, and walked the site regularly to meet and greet campers. The site sits up from the coast with a 120 degree wide view of the sea. Showers are a nicely converted barn with slate tiles wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling which are cleaned twice a day (a relatively easy job to hose and mop out thanks to the way they have been designed).

Would definitely return.

Thanks for this thumbup

Do they have hard standings for motorhomes?

Is it walk-able to a pub and shop?

If there are any kayakers amongst you, I'll add my recommendation of Trefalen Farm. Clifftop site near Bosherston, right above Broadhaven South beach.

The site is ok, nothing to shout about apart from the views, but the location is really excellent if you like to get on the water. Barafundle Bay, Green Bridge of Wales, Huntsman's Leap and Elegug Stacks all within paddling distance from the beach. Going next week, can't bloody wait!

Only bad thing to note about the site is that there are no hot showers, but a solar shower bag or two sorts that out as long as you get a little sun.

Truthfully, I went about 5 years ago at the point Ian was still building the facilities. He didn't have hard standings then buy was still expanding.

There was nothing local but the remoteness suited us.

We're just back from Cornwall (then Norwich this weekend lol) and it was lovely....visited Pedn Vounder beach staying at Treen for a night (amazing, but you need to be able bodied...no buggies or lugging gear down) then onto Gwenver for a week, then Polzeath for another week.

Still enjoy Whitesands and the lack of crowds, but weather we had was incredible! So lucky.
