AIUI Avon has changed the formula so it's no good any more.
I believe they changed it back when they got loads of complaints, I could be wrong though.
Thank god for that, I took 2 bottles of skin so soft with me on the NC500 and it did nothing to repel midges, if anything it attracted them!

Left my cheap arse tent out for several days in the rain.

Dry as a bone inside! Beads nicely on the outside. It only needed one modification, a tab sewn to base of the door so it can be left open as an awning, rather than rolled up in tabs.

1kg tent for €80. Could be a bargain.

Technically living off grid on a boat we’ve brought our tender down river a few hours moored up and camped out wild for the night

How long ago did they do that?
The last bottle of the stuff I bought (maybe three years ago at a guess) was absolutely useless! If it's better now I'll try it again.

After our wild camp last weekend we threw some stuff in the car (camper needs an oil change) and picked up a new blackout tent and headed for coast. Stayed on a site for a few days and hated it!
So this weekend we are back in the tender and a few hours down river again to a quiet back water. Mesh fire pit in to its third year.

Also out at the weekend at last!! Steady pub tour/cycle up to Mam Tor, a fairly sheltered spot just below the trig and away again good time Sunday - rode into Sheffield and train home to Nottingham. Clouds rolled in in the evening so no sunset but views over the Hope valley always quite pleasant!

Does anyone have any experience of the new oex flux 5.0 mat?

The Mrs has got the alpkit cloud base which is very similar just not as insulated, it does however have a 3 year warranty!

Both are £55 currently

I don't but you've reminded me about Alpkit.
Here's a £10 voucher for anyone that needs something from Alpkit.

We have a new toy (bought initially our new boat/Dawncraft) will use for camping too until have solar panel installed on the Dandy. Bargain new at £158!

And thus has begun the competition to see whose phone/vape uses the least watts to charge rolleyes

A staple of YouTube camper types! Always seem to praise it as reliable.

Awesome mate thank you, that's swayed me towards the alpkit option!

So after heading north for every wild camp I've done I've decided I'm going south but only as far as the peak district!!

I'm looking at Mam Tor or Kinder Scout but I'm usually a woodland camper so slightly worried about the weather so might try snake wood instead unless anyone has any other recommendations for any spots lower down?

The majority of Mam Tor and Kinder is pretty exposed - there is a small copse along the mam tor ridgeline but having never explored it I don't know if there's anywhere relatively flat in there! Mam Tor also gets busy quite early!

We did find a partially sheltered spot below the Mam Tor summit (about 10/15m down, on the side that faces Castleton/overlooks the Broken Road). There's a natural flat path with a bit of a bank that provided some shelter, until the wind shifted!

I think up around Lady Bower would be good, plenty of woodland/much more remote feeling if you pushed up to around Cut Gate/Slippery Stones at the far end of the reservoir. There's also a number of cloughs with little used footpaths on both sides of the two reservoirs that would be nice places to stop. I just need to find the time!!

Agreed. Hopefully will ultimately result in a Right to Roam south of the border too.

Darwall must be the most hated landowner in England and Wales - by other landowners! His action has triggered a far larger and popular movement nationwide....

Out a couple of weeks ago at my favourite spot. Winds a bit wild up on the tops so hunkered down in a dip.
Absolutely no views and very "Hound of the Baskervilles" like. Like another world.

Rained all night. Loved it.
