Out for an overnight. 55km pedalling there, and got a decent spot

Obviously a spot for dabbling in satanic rituals.

Have to get over lumps to get there.

Tiny church in the woods.

You can't park there.

How much insulation do you need?
I don’t do sub-zero stuff, but find my Trekology UL80 great - I have one with a bag that attaches to easily inflate (with dry air, rather than breath). Reasonably cheap, although I got it a few years ago.

I am sure there will be warmer ones. I do use a down sleeping bag, which is cosy on top of a decent 5cm mattress.

Comfort or warmth? Roll matts are robust, self inflating matts are lightweight and more comfortable. Budget?

I also need a recommendation for a small, light mat and sleeping bag for 2-3 season use. I have a Rab down bag but suspect things have moved in in the 30+ years since I bought it. biggrin

More info needed guys, budget?
What do you prioritise, comfort, size, weight?

I use a Thermarest Venture, cheap(ish), comfy but not the smallest, lightest or warmest.

For me light and small. Budget sensible! I'm looking at the Cuillin Ridge later in the year.

Alpkit have a sale on today (to be fair they always have a sale).

Can recommend the Pipedream range (I have the 400). It's a down sleeping bag though.

Thanks to all respondents.I think the Trekology fits the bill at the moment.

I've always been a fan of Exped myself. They have a lot of different options depending on what you're looking for (lightness, packability, comfort, warmth, etc). Worth a Google.

Both!

I like thick and wide self inflating matts. Ideally ones that are long enough I can get both my feet and my head on them, which at 6ft2 can be surprisingly challenging to find!

Agreed,
I have a thermarest venture(?) which fits the wide and tall - but is larger than the other mats I have. Perfectly carryable, a smallprice to not hang off a mat all night.

I also have a 'long' Robens mat which is *just* wide enough, but properly long and warm. Also silent. My favourite mat for its balance of performance and weight.

I can't sleep on the thermarest. Too noisy! Found the Nemo much better

I've joined a few wild camping groups on Facebook in readiness of maybe doing a few nights in the Peaks.

Me and my mates used to do loads back when we were 16-18 (40 years ago!) mainly in the Peaks & Lakes and it was not very common.

influencers/Youtubers who are only interested in the likes and views or 'lads' who want something different from the usual weekend in Blackpool.

Viewing these groups there's definitely been an increase in litter, fire damage and whole camps being left for someone else to clear up after them.

This is beginning to put me off going wild camping again which is a shame as my son says he's interested in trying.
I know recommending nice quiet spots is not really done as it means that it's not a quiet spot anymore smile

However, can anyone recommend somewhere in the Peaks (preferably south Peaks) which is ok for a night to reintroduce myself back to wild camping.

Or should I just use a nice quiet campsite like we normally do for our camping trips.

Cheers

I can't help with the South Peaks but last year sometime I was on Bleaklow very early.
There were loads of wildcampers - I say 'loads', more like wildcampers that had just packed up and on their way back very tired with a big load ie. not day packs.

Its a funny old thing asking blatant wildcampers if they had a good night. Often a bit sheepish, they soon open up when I tell them I am a wildcamper biggrin
