I have a 7 year old motorhome, and have a CO monitor in for obvious safety reasons.

We haven't used the motorhome for about 6 months, and it is covered by a waterproof breathable cover, and stored in our drive. We drive past it while driving up the drive, but we never leave an engine running anywhere close to it.

The other day, I noticed a beeping coming from the motorhome, went to investigate, and found the CO detector beeping. I assumed that it might be batteries so changed the batteries, tested it, and put it back in the motorhome. Problem solved, or so I thought.

This morning, I heard it beeping again as I walked past, so I went and retrieved the alarm and left it outside for a while whereupon it stopped beeping.

We have gas boiler providing hot water and heat, and a gas hob, but none of these has been used since we were last using the motorhome.

The gas is switched off, and the engine hasn't been run for a while.

Does anyone have any ideas about where I should start checking for the source of the CO?

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

How old is the CO alarm ? I think they have a limited lifespan, even with a change of the batteries. So it could be that . . . maybe

Thanks. I did wonder about that, but when I put the new batteries in and left it outside, it didn't beep. The detector is coming on for 8 years old according to it's manufacture date.

Rather than trying to hunt all over for a source of CO which may not actually exist, I think it's worth the small investment to check the detector. After all, at that age, I don't want to be using it anyway!

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Sometimes CO alarms are triggered by fumes given off by failing lead acid batteries. Check your leisure battery to see if they're hot is my advice.

I just purchased a new kiddie unit, it says it must be completely replaced no later than 10 years.
