Which Satnav for a motorhome

The new Eldiss 196 we've ordered doesn't come with a built in Satnav whereas our 15 Swift, built on the same platform does have one. And the one in our Swift works really well. Spoke to Peugeot and they say, yes sir, we can fit one for you for c£1.5k. So that ideas out of the window.

My other cars both have built in and I've got an old Garmin Nuvi that works fine, used it last month in Spain and it was fine, but it's a bit small. So for the new m/h fancy a new one. But which one?

Quite like the look and features of the Aguri but reports from another forum are les than exciting - seems it's a tablet and you have to use it from dead in front rather than maybe a bit off centre? Dunno, not seen one.

Am impressed with the features it sports, campsites as POI's, can input the size of your M/H to keep you away from narrow roads etc and it's a decent size - 7 inches, Apparantly Garmin are brining out a 7 inch one too but Halfords don't have it in stock yet.

So I wonder if any of you have any other suggestions

We're planning to spend quite a few months travelling round Europe and SWMBO's navigating skills leave something to be desired, so don't want to rely on paper maps.

Any comments welcomed.

I use 'Waze' for free on my mobile phone and as far as narrow roads and low bridges, I employ some common sense.

I have the Garmin Camper 760LMT-D and cant fault it. Does a good job - never failed me yet and we went across Poland and the Czech Republic last summer. It has a big easy to see screen too.

Very usable and you can pump in your outfit dimensions. For cars I have a TomTom (and have owned several of these) so I am fairly unbiased

I would say a "Truck Nav" from Tom Tom or Garmin (read the comparison reviews). You can put in your vehicle dimensions (so as a small camper you can go places that a big camper can't, that can go places a 7.5 tonner can't, that can go places an artic can't) and it will also work in car mode too, in which case it works the same as the usual top model Tom Tom or Garmin.

I plan on buying a new sat nav soon, and although I don't currently need a truck nav, I will probably buy a Tom Tom 6000 Truck Nav, as plan to build a camper soon too.

eta - just seen its similar to the link with the "bad reviews" - not sure what going on there - search Amazon for Garmin 660. Bear in mind the "going" price is ~£150 and Aldi even had them on offer for ~£119 at one point.

Same here - picked up the Garmin 660LMT-D from Aldi last year on one of their deals. Its not directed me down any narrow roads yet. It occasionally warns me that there is a narrow road on my route but in most cases this is the only way into a site anyway.

I mount mine at the top of the screen next to the rearview mirror which is much closer to your eyes than if mounted at the bottom of the screen on a van such as a Ducato. Bluetooth also works surprisingly well (as well as bluetooth can in a big echoey motorhome)

I don't think Waze has an option to configure yourself as a truck so won't probably be the correct answer in this case.

I didn't know that Garmin made a dedicated caravan/camper Nav, how'd I miss that on the main website? Looks good.

Went to the Harrogate M/H show last weekend and bought the Falcon satnav. Nice big 7inch screen and seems to have good functions. Only slight negative having used it on the way home, is that same as the Aguri, being a tablet, there's quite a bit of glare on the screen but I'm sure that can be overcome with the glare shield they supply. Strange though, they have a very comprehensive database of thousands of POI's built in. We selected a restaurant for dinner but there's no phone numbers listed, so then need Internet on the phone to get the number.

Apart from those points, happy with it. Easy and intuitive to use and a reasonable(ish) price (£299)

We use copilot truck on an android tablet. Coming up for ten thousand miles so far since we started travelling late last year and it has made maybe 3 mistakes in that whole time and none of those was a showstopper. You can pay monthly (£10) or yearly, so for the occasional user can work out quite cheap.

Not to be confused with copilot caravan which is vastly inferior, made a mistake about every hundred miles or so before I gave up on it after a few days.

I use a 10" lenovo tablet, so a nice big screen and can clip it into the flip up clipboard on the dash.
