On Saturday I collected the caravan from the farm where we have stored it over winter. It was in a bit of a state, very very dirty with green around the windows, doors, seams, roof lights etc.

I set to it with the pressure washer, a variety of brushes, traffic film remover, snow foam and car wash and after 5 hours it was clean again, ready for a polish.

I don't mind cleaning it but it set me wondering if a caravan cover would be a worthwhile purchase. The only thing that occurred to me is that this may promote internal dampness when left over winter.

Has anyone got any first hand experience of using a cover and if it is a good or bad move?

Thanks

No experience of covers. However, I have heard many times NEVER TO USE A PRESSURE WASHER ON A CARAVAN!!! So, don't do that again!!! hehe

Thanks for the tip. I've heard the same advice before so didn't have it on high pressure, just enough to move the suds about. The cleaning was done by hand with a variety of brushes.

Not caravan but use a motorhome cover. Its been wrapped up since October and only unwrapped a couple of weeks back ready for MOT and this season.

It's a four layer breathable one and it has certainly kept it clean. The only thing we found were clusters of black dots which I presume is fly crap.

Something we did learn is that the straps that came with it were OK but not beefy enough so used more straps to hold it down.

Another thing is that one size does NOT fit all and even the specific ones don't fit that well.

Just a small tip. Once you get the thing on for the first time Label the front as front as they all look the same on the floor and saves a lot of confusion.

Damp? Nope never had any of that.

Another fan of breathable covers, I used one on my caravan of 1929 vintage for six winters. As the van was all timber construction and interior cupboards and draws all timber, it presented a good test for the cover. Have to say the cover proved 100% its worth. Zero damp and great protection against the elements

But make sure it's a high quality BREATHABLE cover.
