see, i actually don't mind spoilers. i like to know wher things are going so i can savour the journey more.
Normally I would agree...however...with this, I need to avoid spoilers. The wholly unexpected twists and turns this story takes us makes me want to savour the surprises more. I am good at narrativium and can usually guess where something is going or what might happens, but not so much here. Some things make me read it over in shock, red wedding, fate of Ned. Other things I read over and over with a grin, Arya and needle, Tywin and Tyrion and most especially and recently the fate of Janos...now that gave me a grin from ear to ear.

Motherfker. Just finished 'A Dance with Dragons' that is all.
Had GRRM been to hand when I finished it, it would have gone very very badly for him. Never has a book pissed me off that much before!

Oh, on the note of pages - how many pages are there? I read it on kindle, so I don't know - but it seemed to be very very long? Both books I've read since have been less than half the length (one of them was a quarter!)

I was wrong, 1000pages, still chunky, not sure if the hardback has more words to a page as well.

Its also cut down, he used 5 of the chapters towards book 6, although he has said that he might re write them anyway. He normally does

Any news on what is in those chapters?

Finished it all now...rather annoying, had hoped the story would be further along than it is...cas now there is nowhere to go to read more...
Have read 16 years of work in a few weeks...so what now, another 5 years before I know what happens next? That sucks!

Only click the following if you finished book 5

He isnt dead in my opinion, Ive been thinking about it a lot and he is clearly the Azor Ahai thingy and the death is just part of it.

If however he is dead I am going to be really pissed off!

I was expecting that "death", from the red lady's words, from the reaction on here, from the decisions he was making and from Ghost...always trust the wolf!
I do not think he may actually be dead though, he just fell and felt the snow before the fourth point.
Of the three characters I like most, Arya, Jon and Danny the one I knew wouldn't get it was Arya. Danny's position was solid until some of the tendrils reached out to her bit, Selmy, Tyrion, Griff, Quentyn and the Iron Fleet, but the end of that story means she will be around for a while at least, till the end I guess.

Is Rob Strong the Mountain? He was mentioned in AFFC but we didn't get to see him till the end of ADWD

What's the news on Stannis and Winterfell?

How long till the next book?

Varys (I had forgotten aboot him during ADWD) returning was great, another character I like. And more Lannisters in the ditch, great endingbiggrin

Didn't like the inclusions of the new story arcs at first but I do now, they fit in well, it does make it a tad annoying though, because it means we get so little of all the arcs together, Bran and the greenseer for one....Had more thoughts but they are forgotten at the moment...words and windbiggrin

Next book will be done when its ready GRRM has said. He doesnt like to be rushed, it took 6 years between 4 and 5 so hopefully quicker than that.

And no, no idea what is in the chapters, he keeps things very close but may well release a few chapters as he goes.

I didnt see it coming at all really but after it happened I went back and all the clues were there. I think you may well find he has warged into Ghost but when his body is resurrected by Melisandre like Beric did for Caitlyn he will be able to take it back on. Its going to be interesting finding out for sure

As for Stannis and Winterfell I strongly suspect that Stannis is dead at the hands of the Boltons but it is just speculation.

I find your favourite characters very interesting. I cant stand Arya or Dany particularly. Id go for Jon Jaime and Tyrion everytime.

I forgot aboot Tyrion, I liked him from the start, along with Arya, and then I started to like Jon and Dany as they became less stupid, though Dany's showed some weakness recently which has made her stock drop a bit, hopefully the end of ADWD will see the reverse of that.

I hope it isn't that long, I looked at the release years, some were close to, some were long. I understand he has other things to do, I have read some of the online reactions to the delay of the last one, unnecessary in my opinion. It is just that it is all fresh to me, I have read something like 5000 pages in the last two-three weeks, and now it's the realisation that it might be years before I know what happens next.
I didn't think of the warg way to survive, I suppose being in the cold would help keep his body fresh, almost perfect, so it might not be that bad...a few puncture holes thoughbiggrin
The info we have aboot the battle is interesting...Jeyne escapes, Mance doesn't, spearwives might be dead, Theon is with Asha, but Stannis' army was defeated? Could all be lies from Ramsey.
Is Ramsey the vilest person in the book? Surely a contender.

edit
I have been looking for a decent world map and found this
http://kevinhatch.com/media/kh-asoiaf.pdf
It has now been proved wrong by the map in ADWD but it is a decent effort.

AFfC - heard it described as 'plodding' the other day... Sound about right. Not much has happened in 500 pages so far.

Do I buy A Dance With Dragons in hardback? I've finished AFFC and it wasn't as good as previous tomes.

If you can get into it, it's excellent. It's a lot bigger than GRRM's books though. Similar in that it jumps between lots of characters, but it jumps more frequently, and has far more characters. The plot is a little more complicated, too - a result of the sheer size of the world.

Plot is more complicated? This is what I am after.

After browsing online aboot ASOIAF I am realising it is more complicated that I first thought, there is a lot of hidden messages in there.
I read it recently and basically barrelled through it because I liked it so much...but I no doubt missed a lot and misunderstood a lot...the second reading I might not be so full of urgency. This kinda stuff makes me think it is quite deep indeed

and there are lots of site apparently mulling over the many theories.
