im half way through A Feast For Crows and i am struggling to see how this is going to be made in to a full season of a game of thrones.
It won't AFFC and ADWD basically happen over the same period of time, with some of the characters in AFFC revisited in ADWD and taken further in their respective storylines.
They will start to go into AFFC/ADWD material for some characters in S4 and, if they have any sense, they will reach the end of them by the end of S5.

There's still some bits from book 3 to get into season 4 of the TV show. So I assume they are just merging books 3, 4 and 5 in a strange way as to not leave anyone out.
Almost exactly 1/3 of ASOS is left. Some characters are going to get extremely padded versions of their remaining ASOS material, like Arya & Jon
Others seem to moving quite strongly into their AFFC/ADWD material-for example Dany and Brienne.
It wont seem strange as long as it does not impact in any fundamental way on any other character and the main story.

There are parts of the books that can be explained more fully. Some parts of the wall story just seem to happen. Stannis appearing out of the blue to save the wall, this won't be a surprise in the series methinks and we'll see the journey, also the way Stannis suddenly has 4,000 (I think) Northmen behind him in later battles. There is plenty of stuff breezed over in the books that can fill a series.
I thought the reinforcements for Stannis were explained in the book? They were from the Northern equivalent of the Hill tribes that live in the Vale but they live in the Gift I thought? Many of them were thought to have been people from North of the Wall who had settled down once they got over the wall.
Yeah it's explained, but it's whizzed past...not even sure if it is part of the story or referred to in the past tense.
As I recall it, one moment JS is telling SB where to find thousands...and then they are relieving Deppwood Motte and the new recruits are refereed to? A lot of large movement is referred to in past tense, so I think there are plenty of bones of story to put meat on for in the series.
