The Dan Shepherd books by Stephen Leather. And some of his non-Shepherd books as well, to be fair. Though I've steered clear of his supernatural ones.
I usually read on my journeys to work by train and on holiday. I have just read a couple of the Spider Shepherd books. As well as several Reachers.Even though they are quite entertaining, I think I'm a bit sick of books about indestructable bloody-minded-super-human-ex-forces-loners now.

Indeed, although I suppose not everyone has kids (I don't anymore - 'Grown up' allegedly), but still I couldn't be bothered to travel somewhere just to read!
I can do that in bed!

For sure. I can do that in bed!

I enjoy a few trips a year
Skiing so Readingg would be on the plane only really
June and Aug beach holidays a fair bit more Readibg but playing with the kids too
Then a few long weekends and hire a cottage in the late autumn. These tend to be short day trips out then long chilling evenings in the hot tub with fizz and a book.

I read about one a day. Get through 10-12 in a two week holiday. Kindle saves taking a suitcase of books.
That is my main argument in favour of Kindle, even in a working week I can fit in at least one book so storage space becomes a problem.Let's say an average of 500pages per book and assume 12 books that is reading 429 pages every single day.
I'd guess what 8 hours of reading a day any more it's a reading holiday with the odd food break. As such on the above assumptions that means reading 66 pages every single hour of those 8 hours a day for the entire 14 days. 66 pages an hour. thats some going
Although i am enjoying them even if they are a little samey. I did 38 of the Discworld books in 3&1/2 weeks in January whilst i was on holiday. Up at 09:00, gym, breakfast, sit in the sun with a beer/cider until my hosts finished work, dinner. It was over a book a day and it was glorious.

Just started on the Reacher books two weeks ago, i'm on the 8th one now. Mostly read on lunch, whilst quiet at work or in the evening whilst watching TV. I am managing just over 100pages/hour, i read very quickly but they are hardly the most mentally taxing books.

Think I certainly read slower than others here - maybe my booze consumption slows it down /refilling every 15-20mins wed breaks etc. Although i am enjoying them even if they are a little samey. OK will take a look- thanks. I'm just nearing the end of the Tom Thorne series.
Do you only read series like you mention? Always remember as a youth enjoying early Ludlum books, I get bored with how formulaic series books are whereas Ludlum wrote thrillers but the characters and situations always changed (except the 3 bournes) which was far more interesting NDA said:
Thanks for the Tim Weaver recommendation - just downloaded Book 1.
Yes, I prefer reading a long series of books, I enjoy the familiar characters developing.

Enjoy it. He also actually responds to you on twitter which is great.
