Beware, it's proper space opera - three times the length of LoTR!
His other two big trilogies are pretty bloody good, but don't match this one imo.
New trilogy starts soon.
Oh, and the Greg Mandel series is worth a look too, three books set in an eerily potentially accurate near future. Probably not worth reading if you're on a referendum wind down - if Yes had won I reckon he was spot on with what would have happened...

Just started The Reality Dysfunction by Peter F Hamilton.
It's rather spectacular if not a little daunting with so many characters, locations etc when compared to Iain Banks Culture stuff and so on.
None the less feels very good to read something new and exciting
All three are great, a real page turner! Read it once and listen to audio books three times! Each audio book is 45 hrs long. It's rather spectacular if not a little daunting with so many characters, locations etc when compared to Iain Banks Culture stuff and so on.

Can't work out if they would make a good TV series or movie! Can't wait for later on this year for his new book.
Can I be a heathen and recommend a Fantasy book here?
I'm currently reading "The way of kings" by Brandon Sanderson and it's wonderful. It's an "epic" book and series with all that that implies. Book 1 is a 1000 odd page world-building wonderland and is apparently book 1 of 10! Only 1 and 2 are printed so far so it's something I'm going to be invested in for a long time but it's simply the strongest fantasy world I've read since Lord of the Rings.
NB: Because he's creating a whole new world there are moments where he really gets deep into flora and fauna and also history, I'm a fan of this but it can be a little heavy going. If you're looking for a quick fix best give this a miss. I can also heartily recommend the Audio-book version, well read by a male and female voice which adds a nice touch and change of pace

Not here it ain't: amazon.co.uk - looks like yours has expired too.
I read "Lies, Inc" by PK Dick recently. I've read quite a lot of his work over the years, but this one was truly bizarre and I literally exclaimed "What the fk?" at several points. It was like someone had taken a half-decent short story and then shoved a hundred pages of bad Acid trip in the middle.
Oddly enough, having done some background research on it now, that's exactly what it is.

Half way through The Reality Dysfunction now. Wow, pretty intense stuff!
I read a hell of a lot of books and this feels good, not least because it's always nice to find something weighty that you can really get stuck into and not tt through in a couple of nights.
Starting to get a hang of things now - very hard to manage the sheer quantity of characters, locations etc but it's all coming together.
Not as 'engagingly' written as IMB in my opinion - but not worse for it. It feels very real and gritty if that's possible from a pretty hardcore SF book - probably down to the very human stories and reactions to all kinds of atrocities

So it seems this combines the Commonwealth trilogies fully with the Void trilogy. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Abyss-Beyond-Dreams-Chroni...
Blimey. That's some planning if intended all along!
