this is a series (a 10 parter!) I'm enjoying at the moment - it is quite pulpy but it rattles along and you do care for some of the characters

Mr Hamiltons sequel is out? Night Without Stars

Awaits the arrival on Audible.
22nd September.

Is the Abyss Beyond Dreams any good? I have read a lot of Hamilton's work, and his endings always seem to disappoint me. I read the Commonwealth Saga and the Void trilogy and thought they were ok, but not as good as the Night's Dawn trilogy.

I'm tempted by the Abyss. However, I'm not sure how a book between the other sets of books will work.
Tomorrow. Just in time for my new credit.

And he has another out in October. Fallen Dragon, a stand alone book.

And.... Alistair Reynolds has a new one out, Revenger.

Fallen Dragon isn't new; it was first published in 2001....

Ah, missed that. I stand corrected. It is the date it is being released on Audible. Opps.

Just finished Asher's War Factory (Transformation Book 2) - good fun, some great action sequences. Not a classic but well worth a read - call it 7.5/10 smile

Chris Nuttal's latest Ark Royal book is out, #8. He's certainly not hanging around. Not like George chuffin RR Martin!.

I found the idea great on the first ones, but the reading by the narrator was not so good, might be a different experience in paper. I get more reading done in audio books at the moment if that makes sense.

Fortunately I ceased the game of thrones best part through the first book. Got knows how that took off.

The quality [of Ark Royal set] is variable. One of the books spends 3/4 on the 'build up' that is mostly tedious, then 10 pages on a climactic battle, followed by a long epilogue. Others crack straight into a good story where, y'know, stuff happens. The Vanguard ones (#7, and now #8) seem to be going places. Only 2 pages into #8 though! smile Can't speak to the audio books though I'm afraid - a lot will depend on the narrator I guess!

GoT, I loved the books. Discovered them around book #4 and caned them. I'm pretty nonplussed with the TV show. Find it a bit tedious.

Oh god I had to delete the first Ark Royal Audiobook, the narration was utterly awful!

Better as a kindle

May get Abyss Beyond Dreams now that the sequel is out. Means I don't have to hang around once I finish the first book. smile

Last read that about 18 years ago. It's on the bookshelf ready to be devoured again at some point.

Just started Moby Dick - it's not the easiest prose to read, and I wonder if he thought he'd be paid by the word, but it's eloquent and paints a good picture.

I've also read most of them multiple times. One or two of the Culture novels are a bit bleh but the one's that are good, I'd rate as some of the best books I've ever read. It's not just the prose\writing either, some of the ideas and concepts he explores are breathtaking and let's face it, who wouldn't want to live in The Culture?

Started Hyperion a few weeks ago...now practically at the end of book 3.

The first is truly something.

Agreed - maybe, just maybe, my favorite science fiction series so far. The first book in particular is breathtaking at times thumbup
