Enjoyed the first, but the rest are the same. Disappointing.

Lee Child gets slated for the Reacher novels (which I like paperbag), but these books probably worse.

I agree, but I still want to know what happens in the next book... (unlike Jack Reacher)

If anybody reads the end of the Spartans in the last book and doesn't tingle then you never studied history. Anybody who did study history and especially classical history and better yet has gone to Greece and the ancients sites...Jack fking Reacher it isn't.

These books are unapologetically love notes to History.

Without posting any spoilers for people that haven't read it yet (I'm about 80% through) what has she done that's a pet hate? I'm intrigued!

It's not plot related particularly, but I'll hide it anyway

List the characters at the beginning. I really, really, REALLY hate this! IMHO, it's a huge spoiler to have a who is who & personality details are the start of a book. Actually, thats could be a thread I think

Well, why not start it as a new thread then and let's have a good old Pistonheads argument about it!

After this thread I started reading them, I have just finished book 2.

I'm hooked they are fantastic.

My only question is what are the book 2.5 and book 3.5?

I ordered books 1-3 on Amazon, should I find 2.5 first?

My assumption is these are interim short stories. I've not bothered with them.#

But have loved the 'proper' ones.

They are indeed short stories, not essential to read to follow the story (*) but good for a half-hour to hour read.

They're 99p on kindle, and are available free as audio book downloads, so not going to break the bank.

(* There's one slight exception - it's a good idea to read 4.5, Christmas Present, before you carry on to 5 and 6, since there are characters introduced who appear in the main storyline)

I have read them all and I find myself waiting for the next.

Where can I go now? What do I move onto?

+1 for the Thursday Next series. I've just finished #3 the Well of Lost Plots.
The 1st two were excellent. This one wasn't quite as rounded, too much exposition. I hope the rest go back to standard,

regards,
Jet

Dragging this back up...

Loved these, thanks to the OP for the recommendation. Just re-reading the series (am up to 'what could possibly go wrong') prior to reading the new one that's just appeared on the kobo store.

Just awesome, one of the only two authors to have genuinely created a 'lol'.
