Rip Terry.
I now like to think of his creation of Death arriving and saying:
“DON'T THINK OF IT AS DYING, said Death. JUST THINK OF IT AS LEAVING EARLY TO AVOID THE RUSH.”

Drat drat damn and drat. I did not think he was in for it this early.

Have a goodly collection and a few that need reading. Glad I have read his work.

Buggerit millennium hand and shrimp frown

Only recently finished Raising Steam, was great to see he was still on good form despite his embuggerance.

“People don't alter history any more than birds alter the sky, they just make brief patterns in it.”

I hope they looked for his "I ate'nt dead" sign, just in case.

RIP Sir Pterry. One of the greats.

Sad news indeed.

I have a number of his books, a few of which are hand signed, that I prize very highly, and even more so now knowing they are now that more irreplaceable.

A sad day for all those who love great literature.

I will raise a glass in his memory tonight while listening to Dave Greenslade's Discworld album.

Gutted.

Without a shadow of doubt my favourite author, and a properly decent bloke by all accounts as well.

RIP, Terry.

From the interviews I saw of him he appeared a really good guy. I have never read any of his books so would someone like to recommend me a start point? I dislike starting with a new author and finding out I started partway through a series of books.

I ate a Christmas meal with pTerry, for reasons I won't burden you with (it was in a group of about 30); he was a very humane man but in no way the jolly man he often seemed to portray. He viewed his humour as a very serious matter. He will be missed.

A nice chap, who as said, saw humour seriously.
if you want to read the Discworld, then start with The Colour of Magic, its the first one, but not the best. Then pick and choose, though there is a basic order, and characters can appear in any book. They are a good cynical/satirical view on our world.

Have only recently picked up on the DiscWorld series; I read The Colour of Magic a couple of months ago, after a colleague basically implored me to read them.. Have since read Episodes 1-6, and also Truckers, Diggers and Wings. I am, basically, hooked..

I am gutted that he's left us so soon after I got to know him and his style, wit and irreverence..
