"The entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks."

My second favourite author after Douglas Adams. I'm gutted that there'll be no more Discworld novels to enjoy. I'm going to have to stock up on dried frog pills to get through this. I hope Nanny Ogg has plenty for sale.

"Murder was in fact a fairly uncommon event in Ankh-Morpork, but there were a lot of suicides. Walking in the night-time alleyways of The Shades was suicide. Asking for a short in a dwarf bar was suicide. Saying 'Got rocks in your head?' to a troll was suicide. You could commit suicide very easily, if you weren't careful."

"SOD YOU, THEN, Death said."
― Terry Pratchett, The Color of Magic

"The street was full of animals, milling around uncertainly. When animals are in a state of uncertainty they get nervous, and the street was already, as it were, paved with anxiety."

Possibly not so. I read somewhere that his daughter is to continue writing the series.

I read that too. I hope she doesn't, though. It wouldn't be the same.

As i understood it, she has already been helping him. Whether she can write the books on her own is another matter. Perhaps he was working on a last book that she could complete? But TPs style is unique, it wouldn't be the same, but a Discword send off small book? Could that could?

Much missed. His skill developed along with the Discworld, and his offbeat humanity shone through. Religious wierdos of all persuasions ought to read "Small Gods" at least.

His last Discworld novel has apparently been given a release date of 10th September, and is now available for pre-order from Amazon.

Haven't got any of his books in anything other than Kindle format, but for reasons I can't explain would like a hardback copy of his last one. Even though I have another 35ish of his earlier ones still to go before reading it...

Certain son of a well known SF series, Dune, did the same. Writing was no where near the old style and if I were to read it as a first, I would not have bothered with the rest.

So I suppose it depends how close she can follow the style, though I would still give a new book a punt to see what it is like, never know and would not want to write it off before it is off the ground.

After collaborating with her on a few books, Anne McCaffrey's son Todd has continued to write solo since she died in 2011. I've yet to read one, though, so can't comment on whether or not her style has survived.
