as an avid reader of paperbacks due to being a commuter, I use a very good scheme that my local egg farm (really) that has a bring one and take one book scheme. Last weekend I was there getting some eggs and picked up a Chris Ryan book, now I've never read any of his work but by god what rubbish. How this person got published is beyond me, The plot was pure fantasy and the central character could have won any war on his own and the language was disgraceful. The worst thing I can think of for any book is to burn it but this one came close. I left it on the train.

He only got a book deal on the back of The One That Got Away, which came out after Bravo Two Zero, both of which were excellent.

I'm with you though on his fiction stuff - not great.

Seems bizarrely popular on here, have never read and don't intend to based on descriptions from reliable witnesses.

The literary equivalent of a Steven Seagal movie?

About right. Dross, but then Dan Brown is a bestselling author, as is Jordan...
