Just purchased all three is "his" books for the Mrs for Christmas.
I realise it's a pen name for J K Rowling.
Bought on the basis of a good Radio 2 Book club review, but I could they could not slate it, bearing in mind she was sitting the studio at the time!
Anyone read them?
Might have a go after she has finished with them.

Just started reading The Cuckoo's calling.
Haven't read for a long time and it seems simple enough to read. Flowing well so far.

I've read one and a half and found them uninspiring, quite tedious with little surprise or intrigue in them. Not exactly a decent effort for a crime novel. For what it's worth I had no idea who had written them. I found out half way through cuckoo's calling so finished it off as I'd never read any Potter books. I was underwhelmed but had the silkworm book so tried to give it ago. Didn't finish it.
I felt they were unbalanced. Not enough description or situation created for important details in the book, then an over the top in depth look into something extremely pointless like a handbag. Didn't encourage me to read anything else by her as it lacked strength and direction to the writing.

Charity shop material; I read one and found it quite excruciatingly bad . I started another to verify that somebody who had sold a gazillion books hadn't just been having a bad day with the first one . She hadn't - because it was even worse.Plot ridiculous, dialogue plodding and pace glacial .

As Dorothy Parker once said -'This is not a book to be cast aside lightly, but to be hurled with great force'.

I found Cuckoo's Calling underwhelming to say the least.

I felt she was trying too hard and found her descriptions and analogies often quite amateurish. I wanted to like the main character but couldn't get past the over familiar characterisations and lack of originality.

fair play to her fro trying to leave HP behind and get into adult writing but it missed the mark by some way for me.
