Recommend me some books....

Afternoon all,

Only been really into reading for the last couple of years.

I've mainly only really read Dan Brown's books, almost off of James Patterson's and Kerry Wilkinson.

I like this genre of book, fast paced, twists and turns and Kendall detective based.

Any recommendations for something similar to read as I'm out of books and have a 2 week Caribbean holiday coming up.

Have a look through the "Jack Reacher, any good?" thread for a lot of recommendations probably more along the James Patterson line that Dan Brown, and I don't think I've read the other author you mentioned.

I always liked Jonathan Kellerman and felt his stuff was a bit similar to James Patterson, though it's ages since I've read either. JKs wife Faye Kellerman also writes, and I think there's some confluence of characters and the odd joint novel too.

Patricia Cornwall if you like crime mixed with a medical/pathology spin on it

Robin Cook if you want a pure medical crime thriller read

John Grisham legal based thrillers

The old James Herriot vet books are always a great light hearted insight in life as a vet in the Yorkshire dales during the 40's to 60's

Personally I've always enjoyed Jeffrey Archers books, not everyones cup of rosy

Also enjoyed the old paperback M*A*S*H stories

I also liked the earlier Jeffery Archer books, not popular with everyone granted. Very good shout on the James Herriot books though, forgotten about them. Off to do a little shopping......

A lot of these are good, though I did think she went through a spell of them being rubbish. In a similar vein there's Kathy Reichs.

Check out any book by Jo Nesbo in the Harry Hole series.

Excellent fast paced detective novels.

GM Ford was a revelation to me, jaded a bit by hundreds (it seems) of 87th precinct stories and I also enjoy the Robert Crais stories too

Any of the Prey stories by John Sandford too and I can recommend Donald Harstad tales

As you see I'm concentrating on American Police or Detective stories for this list but there are tons of Ordinary Blokes type ones too

Leslie Thomas went on from The Virgin Soldiers to give us many 'British Men in changing life style, marital problem' tales such Tropic of Ruislip

These tales are ideal for picking up or dropping when you hit the beach or deckchairs
