Help finding the title of a book

Hi all,
This is driving me mad! I remember reading a book a few years ago whilst on holiday.
In my mind the book is titled 'The Cigar Room' or something, however I can't find anything with that title.
From what I can remember, the protagonist (I think it's a male, but not 100%) finds some sort of private club/speakeasy type of place, which has some sort of cigar club in the basement. It's quite difficult to get into, but one day he/she gets invited in. The cigar room turns out to be somewhere where they serve Japanese fish that can kill you if not cooked right. I can't remember what happens after that.
I think it is set in the States, but again not sure. Does anyone have any idea?

Only thing I could find on a search is Club Of Angels By Luis Fernando Verissimo. But it doesn't really mention cigars much, just a dining club that features Fugu somewhere.
That's not too far away, but it isn't the book I'm thinking of. But the story does have similarities, good effort!Gassing Station | Books and Literature | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
