The news this week is that 10% of the UK population owns no books at all.

Not counting electronic books, kindle, etc, at the moment I reckon I own around 1,000 books.

What about you?

That's a lot of books! I maybe have 100 max, I had more but donated of lots of novels I'd never read again. May as well let someone else read them smile

My father, 65, probably has 750ish. Lots of which sadly aren't of major interest to either my sister nor me.

I have about 250 ish. Started buying them when I retired last year so all accumulated in about 18 months, and rising almost weekly.

All bar about 10 bought from charity shops.

Probably 30-40. Once I have read them I tend to pass them on to the local charity shops (and keep my eye out in there as well for refills)

Currently have the full set of Game of Thrones and a range of Bourne books. Also just got the latest Wilbur Smith for my birthday (have read every one of his) and have a few Tom Clancy/Simon Scarrow/Conn Iggulden lying about

Probably go through 2-3 a month on average.

Have never been able to get on with my Kindle tbh

Loads. I have a 600mm billy bookcase that is completely full and a stack of books piled up beside it. Lots of subjects ranging from "Weird cars" to video game art.

The Mrs has about half as much as I do aswell so lots of books in my household.

Good topic!

Between us, my partner and I own just over 3000 books (we bought a house together last Spring and counted the approximate numbers - this was after we both got rid of a lot of reading material to lessen the pain of moving house).

In fact, she has a pic on her phone for reference: think a 1930's Semi. Picture the size of the double bedrooms. Now imagine a load of books stacked up on the floor to window height and extending approx 6 foot into the room across the full width.... that was only some of our library. (I had to move 'em sharpish as I was worried the floor wouldn't take the weight! hehe )

I seriously can't (or won't) imagine a life where I didn't have a vast amount of books. I may well be a die hard petrolhead, but if I had to chose between books and cars... the books would win.

I´ve never counted. It´s a lot. They´re everywhere and appear to be multiplying. All get/will get read.

Less than 20.

I don't read very often in this digital age, and when I do I tend to move the book on afterwards.

Probably 100-200 or so, I tend to get rid of them once I've read. Most that we have are more travel books, photography etc rather than novels.

About 200 in the flat... and about another 1000 in storage! All in boxes taking up space 'cos I have no more space at home. When I lived 'at home' we had bookcases everywhere overflowing with books and stacks of them in the loft, garage, under the bed...

Probably about a 1000, mostly in storage in the garage. Me and the mrs always have a book on the go. It does surprise me how little people read. Most people I know aren't regular readers and maybe read a few books on holiday, my brother has read less than 10 books in his life!

Cool topic smile

Have to say, the 10% figure doesn't surprise me at all, to be honest.

All in, probably around the 200 mark, this is the remainder from the big cull I had a few years back.

Just waiting for Tai Lopez to chime in now. Knaawledge yes

Hundreds. I love reading and rereading books. One of my biggest regrets was giving a load of books away before going travelling. Didn't make a list and so am struggling to buy them all back.

Its astonishing that some people own no books. Astonishing and sad.

Probably about 1000, mainly general reference- lots on wine, travel and artists' works. I have culled a lot of my cookery books, and now just keep a few of my favourites which I've written my analysis of what would make the recipe better biggrin

No idea. In terms of shelf space probably about 36' of novels in the bedroom, 8' of random stuff in the spare room, 9' of mainly gardening and cookery books in the lounge. Then I've got another 8-10' of technical books and the wife's got probably similar of work books.

Assume about 3/4" average thickness I make it around 1500 biggrin

ETA: Oh and around 200 on my kindle, the wife's electronic collection is probably twice that size
