Virgin Media TV?

I currently have Virgin Media broadband 100, paying £37/Month. (well my company does )

For the last 18 Months i have been streaming tv which really sucks as the picture quality is awful on my 50" 4K tv

I can't have a regular tv aerial or sky dish (landlord won't allow holes!)

Have been looking at Virgin Media Tv, and for an extra £0.76/ month (and £20 for the box) i can have the basic tv package which is a no brainer.

All i want is the basic channels (in HD) and Sky sports F1 HD.

It looks like you can add Sky sports as an add on without taking out the VIP tv package?
However helpfully Virgin do not say how much it is to add Sky sports, as i don't have the basic package yet!

So can anyone tell me how much Virgin charge for adding Sky sports HD to the basic tv package?

Very strange for a landlord not to install a TV aerial.

Has your place had virgin tv before? As I think if you get broadband only, then they only drill one hole and TV needs two wires, so you they may need to come and drill another hole. But being next to each other, and probably within the same plastic boxes each side so landlord will likely not notice.

The house is a new build (I'm the first in) which was designed for virgin media, it has the brown box by the front door, and 2 other boxes in the lounge (the other side of the house).

1 is the coax cable connected to a block with only 1 output which is used for router.

The other i assume is for telephone.

Just had a look at my account, and it appears that adding Sky Sport would be £31.75 a month extra.

Thanks, that looks good, as i currently pay now tv £33/Month.

Is that in HD?, or do they still charge extra.

Have just signed up for the basic tv package, box should be delivered on Monday

Thanks. Well had a call earlier from Virgin and appears that i do need an engineer for the install.

However they have waived the £40 engineer fee, and reduced the monthly charge down to £34/Month.

So guess it will be £72/month with Sky sports HD which is not too bad.


Will the virgin box play Sports in Ultra HD? or is that only for sky customers with the Q box?

We've had TiVo for 5 years and the box and system are great.

The problem is when we started 5 years ago is about £40ish.

It's currently £65 and Virgin have just told me it's going up another £4 in a few months. My package hasn't changed.

Might be time for a call to Sky.

Your streaming should be fine. Suggest you order the latest router. Insist that they don't charge you for it and try to get their engineer to fit it.

£72 a month is a ridiculous considering you won't get anywhere near the broadband speed, i'm on 100 mb and do a speed test at least once a week and it never goes over 65 mb/s. I had the full house with BT Sport but I get my Sky Sports in full HD from abroad for £8 a month along with every international sports channel.

I have the 150mb pack with all sports, movies and phone - Costs something like £120pm. Always get 150mb download and around 12mb upload, sometimes faster.

I'm on 200mb and get over 190 usually. If you can get any other supplier as fast as Virgin I'd be surprised.

OP - to add tv to your setup above they just change that little silver box to a splitter; one coax will go to the router, the other to your Tivo or whatever you're getting.

Currently there are no 4K channels available with Virgin.

My personal opinion is I wouldn't touch VM with a barge-pole again having now been with them for 4 months.

In that time we have had 6 extended broadband losses, TV down-time and the latest is that having cancelled the intro "offer" of 3 months free Sky Sports & Movies I have continued to be charged for it - I missed the bill cut-off date by 1 day but they turned the taps off anyway.

My mistake but one that could easily have been covered by goodwill. Instead I'm now just angry and can't wait for my contract to be up.

Been a customer of Cabletel, NTL and VM for over 20 years - Broadband has been excellent - up to a usable 200MBps now (more than we need, in reality, but nice as I work from home).

Tivo was the biggest mistake we made, slow, clunky, freezes - Old box (now in the spare room) doesn't have these problems - At least it stores more video.

Would dump Tivo if I could, personally - Probably something newer and dearer still out now or will be soon as Sky offer a new box which will record more stuff at once now.

Yep the first generation Tivo box (we have) is painfully slow - it was sold to the missus that because the broadband would be fast it would be quicker to watch catch-up etc...however when it takes the Tivo box 30 seconds to load the iPlayer app it's a wasted promise...

Exactly the same as for us. But when I last looked at sky, (whose BB we've had previously, and it was dire, and the signal for the TV breaks up when it rains...), was pretty much the same cost.

Do virgin have us over a barrel?, especially when you consider we have probably a couple of months worth of viewing stored in the tivo box.

If you recall, the first Tivo box wasn't slow. It wasn't until last summer after they did a big software refresh that it slowed down to today's unacceptable levels.

Some might call this curious timing as the new Tivo box was being launched (which, is said to be fast)!

Thanks, no issues at all with the broadband, i get just over 100 Meg.
Netflix/Amazon play excellant picture quality.
Its streaming live tv that is st, as the broadcasters dont alow you to stream in HD.

Anyway ive signed up for the "mix" tv selection with the new Tivo V6 box and 100 meg broadband for £50/month.
And will then add Sky sports HD for around £38 extra.

Engineer booked for next Thursday, so will see what its like.

My current contract with Virgin is up in September Currently on the Full House Bundle with 100MB and BT Sport. Paying £53 a month as they took off £4 for 20 years loyalty as i've been with them since the old Cabletel and then NTL days.

I know they are advertising Full House for new customers at £55 but I know a few people who have 100mb with Sky Sports and Cinema and claim they are only paying £37.

Have I been getting my monies worth or have they had me over a barrel.
