Interesting book - funny and dark with an interesting conclusion that could be rather scary.

Perfect Match, Jodi Picoult.
Not my typical style, but a surprisingly good read. Not finished yet so there may be another twist or disappointing ending but so far a satisfying departure.

Good stuff, long slog over the trilogy I thought. I assume you've read the first.

Yes. Did most of the first one during a (work) trip to Australia a few weeks back, and have just carried on. Not rushing at it!

45 pages into Dissolution, the first in the Shardlake series by C J Sansom.

So far, so intriguing and I am a huge fan of these historical novels - Pillars of the Earth being one of my favourite books.

No Mercy, John Gilstrap - an attempt to cash in on the Jack Reacher books, but better, in my opinion - book one of at least 6 out so far. (I've just grabbed the rest, will see how far I get).

I'm about 60% through Rain Girl by Gabi Kreslehner, which is the first English novel by a German author. As a detective thriller, it's not bad.
Finished Rain Girl (OK), read the next 5 in the John Gilstrap series(decent alternative to Jack Reacher), now onto another new find through Kindle Unlimited - Enchantress - book one of the Evermen Saga. Run of the mill fantasy, not bad.

Got through all 3 of Luke Delaney's books on holiday - Cold Killing, The Keeper, and The Toy Taker and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. If you like Mark Billingham, you'll like these...

Bought for two quid on Kindle. 34% through and enjoying it a lot more than thought I would.

Awesome novel, I've read it a few times now - looking forward to the film but i can't say Matt Damon struck me as an obvious choice for Watney...
I struggle to take him seriously since Team America...

Agreed on the Martian, got hooked and finished it in 2 days.

Just started 'Fall of Giants', first in the Ken Follett trilogy. Seems okay so far. The talk of/about the posh snobs/aristocracy is a little wearisome, but the description of the coalminers lives makes up for it.
Got this for 99p in a recent Kindle deal. Half way through and really enjoying it.
About 3/4 in now, and the political discussion is still tedious, but necessary I'll grant. The details of the carnage on the battlefields is pretty harrowing, all the more so because of the futility of it all....

Nearly finished it, I agree largely but will certainly read the next one in the series. New Jack Reacher is waiting first though.

Reading Laura Hillenbrand UNBROKEN
its a harrowing true story of an American airman who was shot down in the Pacific during WW2 and his treatment at the hands of Japanese guards,
the power the human body/mind has to stay alive in terrible conditions is unbelievable and amazing, I honestly think I would have given up if I had to suffer half of what he went through.
What makes the book for me more poignant for me is a close friend has just committed suicide and I just want them to read the book and say things are not that bad are they? but the mind is a strange thing and at times like that, logic and reason go out the window and are replaced by the black dog.

Just read Truman Capote's classic, In Cold Blood, which is purported to be the first true crime novel. Certainly worth a read, I very much enjoyed his writing style and how he framed the story.

Eichmann Before Jerusalem..just published.

Covers the fact that his presence in Argentina was very well known, and the well organized post war Nazi support network. All new material, interestingly.

Is it Mars week? I'm waiting for this to arrive.

Mary Roach is absolutely hilarious! Her book "Stiffs" is one of my top 5 books. It's the little post script comments at the bottom of the pages that crack me up.

Same here, 3/4 through. I'll definitely have to download the other two soon.

Jack Reacher has a new book??

I've read that a year ago, good book, but there are doubts in circles as to how true some of it is. it did gall a little at the end, the way things turn out, but I'll let you decide that yourself. wink
