Have now finished and have to say, it is one of those books that I didn't want to end(if you know what I mean) - excellent!
I always get that with Stuart Macbride books, though I haven't read that one yet.

I've just finished "The Treatment" by Mo Hayder, which has some elements that made me think I'd read it before, but the ending tells me I haven't. Now on "Red Mist" by Patricia Cornwell - I haven't read any of hers for a while because they started getting a bit ridiculous, but this one is OK so far.

I love those books, utter mindless relaxation & enjoyment smile

Don't think it was me who mentioned them here though
It might have been, was a long time since they were added to the Amazon wish list. I've got The Martian to read next which was also a PH recommendation from about 6 months ago too.

The hat trick is complete. Have just finished "Rose Gold" by Walter Mosley and it is one of those "gangsta" private eye type of books set in the 1960s. Not a patch on Raymond Chandler, nor any other of the notables from the day, and I've decided to have a change. Instead of it going in the bin it's on the fire. At least it can heat the house a bit. Now onto the latest Ian Rankin. I'm sure that'll be better.

3/4 of the way through The Martian - totally gripped. Really well written and a compelling read. Thanks PH for another good recommendation.

its good innit?

i'm half way through I am Pilgrim - really liking it another PH recommendation.

can some one answer me a question though?

What is the point of the Dodge Investigation? is it merely a smoke screen to give him a presence in the area or is there a link to the Saracen I've missed? thanks.

Matt Damon will be playing The Martian! Hmmm maybe.

Finished it (had a bit of a white out day on the slopes so a chance to get stuck in).

How to be an astronaut on earth is in the pile, seems apt to follow on with.

All will become clear, you haven't got to 1/2 the twists yet!

Well, tell us about it then, you've obviously read it?

Watch the author vid I posted (though he gives a bit too much away IMO). I'm just getting stuck into it. So far it's great, right into the action. I'm hoping it sticks the pace.

Very John Grisham influenced.

Picked this up last week and really enjoyed it. Interesting ending.

Bit new to this reading for pleasure lark, after several attempts to "get into" books over the years I have eventually settled into AudioBooks, listening when out walking the dog. My first 'book' was Fight Club which I really enjoyed and am now half way through Trainspotting - I think this is fantastic. I am going to get both Skag Boys and Porno when I get through it. Watched the film over the weekend and whilst I enjoyed it I don't think it is anywhere near as good as the book, so far at least.

I really like then as they are narrated by one of the main characters, does anybody have any suggestions of where to look for more similar reads?

Thanks

I'm the only one so far that found it boring!
It maybe some time before I get to it but, will let you know. smile
Having now read the book, I'm pleased to announce that you are still on your own in the finding of boring within the pages of Odd smile though I will admit to the taking of time in the finding of 'pace' to the story-line.

Oh and, amongst others, have now finished Peter May's latest 'Runaway' and will just say PM is a class act. smile

Just started Ordinary Thunderstorms by William Boyd. Have had it on the Kindle for a few years but never fancied it. Only a few chapters in but enjoying it so far, Boyd has a really satisfying way of putting sentences togther; they have pace but also depth. Good bloke.

Agreed, AHH is one of three 'comfort' books I read every year or so, it's utterly superb - AHH, The Mortdecai Trilogy by Kyril Bonfiglioli and Fast & Louche by Jeremy Scott.

I've been keeping an eye on the Kindle Daily Deals and picked up Rogues for 99p the other day. Collection of short stories put together by George R R Martin from the likes of Neil Gaiman, Scott Lynch, Connie Willis and loads more. Some modern, some sci fi, some fantasy, etc. Some great stories and its a good way to find other authors I might be interested in, bought a Scott Lynch one the other day on the strength of his short story.

Just picked this up randomly and was pleasantly surprised at what a great read it was.

Pretty far-fetched plot but then you realise the book is just a quirky, sometimes funny, sometimes depressing commentary on the human condition.

Good to know, I'm just starting that one. I've just finished 'Missing You' by Harlan Coben, also a good read if a little predictable in some areas.
