RE: Ford RS200
Discussion
I drove one aged 17.
My dad had the onerous task of long-term road-testing a total of four to see what would break, and actually they were surprising reliable. I think he racked up the best part of 100k in them.
One blew a turbo pipe off, one had a blowout (cue major major spin that he drove away from - built like a tank), they got a bit hot in traffic, apart from that, I remember them being quite trouble-free.

in what 3 years did this happen?
long term road test on 4 homologation specials ?
built like a tank? with plastic bodywork.
rs200 are you sure?
Believe me, I mean RS200s. From about 1987 to 1990. Three white ones (two admittedly for very short periods, at least one was LHD) and finally a red one. He worked freelance for Ford Motorsport at that time, and he and a bloke called Bob Howe ran them as road cars. I'm not sure if any payment was offered, lol. My abiding memory was the tinkling noise when idling which sounded like someone had poured nails in to the gearbox, and the fact I stalled it about ten times on the one occasion I was allowed to drive one.
After that he had a series of Sapphire and Escort Cosworth company cars from them. I drove the latter, but I can't remember driving the former.

so the year after the rs200 was banned the production run had long finished and they already had type approval and ford had moved onto the rs500 and the 3 door cosworth your dad had 4 rs200's to just test for the next 3 years? After that he had a series of Sapphire and Escort Cosworth company cars from them. it dosnt sound realistic.
Hmmmm, the RS200 story sounds very odd.
Only 4 red cars officially released by Ford and Johnnytheboy claims to have driven one just after passing his test.
All red cars were released long after Group B was cancelled and only painted red to try and sell the unsold stock.
Sounds too far-fetched to be true.

Bob Howe as mentioned in the post was one of the main men in the RS200 project and ran his cars for those kind of milages so might not be so far fetchedOnly 4 red cars officially released by Ford and Johnnytheboy claims to have driven one just after passing his test.

<Sigh>
Ask yourselves what possible motive I would have for making it up. It's not like I stand to make any money....
Go to http://www.rs200.org/
I don't appear to be able to post a specific link, but use the chassis list down the left to choose #073 & #192 and click on them.
My old man is the chap named in the text accompanying each picture (#192 is the fourth and final car he had, and the one I drove, which IIRC was the first red one), and also the author of the Fast Ford article mentioned, in his capacity as a motoring author.
As a secondary check, google his name or stick into Amazon.
I don't have a scanner, but if you all still randomly don't believe me I can photo some of the pictures I took back then of them which I have somewhere around still.
EDIT: Having looked closely at the pics accompanying Car 073, a couple are clearly from my Dad's article as the backgrounds are from his home village of Burton Bradstock (the one with the white finger post sign in saying West Bay).

I tried to send you an e-mail.
If I am correct you went to Imperial College and your Fiesta broke down at the City & Guilds Cadwell Park Track Day. We used my RAC membership to get it sent back home.
I also recall you being quite tall but as I am short that tends to describe most people 6 foot and above.
