Hijack here,

Sir McNab, how long ago did you have the 365GTB? I ask as I absolutely adore this car and it will be the first classic I will buy myself. Any opinions, advice and all that stuff much appreciated - or just tell me it's an absolute must as the desire is building up steam.

PM if you like

Cheers

To be soo close to an owner of one of the finest automotive beasts to ever be made, but yet soo far away. It strikes up the dreams of those fellow enthusiasts who would go to no end to get the pleasure of basking in the presence of the car god.

this guy could make a fortune charging a fiver a ride

just a guess but i think it would cost more than a fiver a mile to run it.Nice bit of engineering though.

I'd also like to know why the clutch needs replacing after only 3000 miles. Doesn't seem logical ?

Well i imagine it goes something like

<drop clutch, full bore, manically screaming down the road>

3,000 miles would be fair game i reckon...

Treated like that the clutch's work is over and done with very quickly though. Probably it's the rest of the transmission that's taking the stick isn't it?

So far as the clutch is concerned a lot of revs and a slow engagement would be more damaging I would have thought.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I think you're correct about lots of revs/slow engagement Dave. IIRC, the F1 has a very small, lightweight flywheel, so it could be that stop/start driving does fry the clutch pretty quickly.

So that's another question for TED/flemke.
Q. How does it cope with town driving ?

I've seen a racing F1 up close, and the development car at Millbrook, and what always strikes you is how compact it is, something you don't appreciate from photos...

Q. On the race track/test track the central driving position must be great, but was it a mistake for a road car ?

Regards,

BOR

Charmed, I'm sure.

Get nasty? Blimey, is that some sort of threat? My friend, you need to be on www.spinelessthreatsmadeininternetforums.com, not here.

Given that if you knew me you'd know I hailed from Wales originally, this makes your feeble jibe look a bit silly, I think.

Still - suns out....

Best wishes,
Greg

Would make for some interesting debate on the board if flemke turned out to be Pro-Europe and a Labour voter.
Or if he has a taste for burberry and tartan???

There is a big PH meet at Virginia Waters on Thursday for a visiting American member. Its the first evening meet but a typical Sunday meet usually brings in 150-200 of the finest Sportscars (and a few Chims too! )

Yes, do bring the Macca to Virginia Waters! You know you'd like to show that smug American what British class and refinement is all about (and he wants to be shown...really really wants to be shown )

And Mungo, your point about instantly being treated with godlike respect is duly noted. If people here start treating flemke like the second coming, I'm going to run out and buy a McLaren too. Respek.

Welcome Flemke

You're a bloke with a car.......get posting. Its as simple as that to me, I hope it is to you too.

Driving impressions, stories, piccys (not of you, just the car) and lots of 'em please.

Good luck with your first post, make it a cracker.

edited to say: instead of a Fantasy car's list could we have Fantasy Mate's then we could all add Flemke for a hoot.

With all this fuss about the owner, I'm not surprised he/ she wishes to remain anonymous.

Enjoy your motoring!

To be perfectly frank I couldn't care what cars people drive...

You could have a really top bloke who owns a Lada or a dull dickhead who owns a Ferrari 330 P4 - I know which one I'd rather have a drink down the pub with.

It's great to know we have a member with a F1 but this won't make me warm to him / her any more or less on that fact alone.

Completely agree with this. Why such a song and dance? Its a nice car, the chap sounds nice enough, but its hardly the coming of the messiah.

Just read this thread from start to finish.

Ted's comments sound very familiar to a conversation I have with a really nice chap a while ago. I sold our Brian James Trailer to him so he could take trailer his toy to tracks.

He told me a few stories about how him and his friends regularly go hooning in their cars for a bit of a laugh, including the Ring. One of such friend owns an F1. All perfectly believable.

He was a PH member who has been a member for a while but hardly posts, so there's no reason why this chap isn't kosha...

In association with Autocar produced a cracking free book on the F1 road car which I've since managed to lose
