Yeah but I don't understand - Ted says "flemke" has been a member since '99...

Oh no he said he's been a reader... my mistake.

Yes, I was just making sure everyone knew what car we were talking about

More info on that car here by the way.

The speed of 221MPH sounds familiar . One of the car mags run a story about Thomas Bascher , a German GT racer who had/has 2 McLaren F1's. I think he is now boss of Bugatti.

He was known to drive the balls of his road car F1 and the factory got a speed of 221MPH from the cars telemetry . I believe that was also on the autobahn near Frankfurt, but then I doubt he'd be on PH ...oh well , bit of a long shot.

From what 'flemke' was saying, the rev limit caps the top speed at ~220mph. To get the 241mph record, they'd upped the limit.

He had it approaching 200mph at Bruntingthorpe once and the rear end started twitching

I think my rear end would be twitching at those sorts of speeds.

(By the way, it's not me, I don't have a Macca F1. Like you hadn't guessed already!)

Would be nice to hear from the man himself, although as Ted has pointed out, there are some of us who remember only to well, the previous debarcle surrounding the last F1 'owner'.

I'm interested to know some info. from the man himself. How longs he had it, why did he buy it, does it get annoying having such a 'famous' car when all you want to do it drive the thing and use its potential?

There's a chap on a US automotive forum who has 2 of the things, there was some sceptisism at first but he sesems to enjoy answering questions about the cars and people respect him, I hope this chap gets a similar reception.

I just want to know some info on the car from the chap himself, rather than journos and the like. Pics would be nice too, I hope it's not the colour of that one posted up, the colour looks like my sis's Bravo

He's keen to contribute but thought it best if I kicked things off. So, pipe up with what you want to know and hopefully he'll be along in the next few days to share some of his experiences.

Well I wanna know what the legend is like to live with. It's hard to think of it as just being a car.

Nice to know that somebody has the integrity to prove ownership before bragging.

I remember seeing the car being tyre tested at MIRA and was very impressed by it then. Having also seen a Yamaha OX99 at MIRA too I can only say that it made me even more impressed with the McLaren. Plus I have been in an XJ220 (unfortunately not at high speed) but was seriously unimpressed by the general bulk of the car. Again, not a problem the McLaren suffers from.

So Mr McLaren owner - you had better get busy posting some photos....

However, wary of that incident (he's been a reader of PH since 1999), this chap brought along some pictures and info about his car. In fact he even brought the V5 and MOT certificates!

Ted,

I thought you would have known better... To confirm that he actually owns the car you should have told him to bring it along. Then you could have given it a test drive to make sure its not just a really good replica!

Actually he owns 3! One of which is an LM.

Liam Howlett's F1 is now owned by Paul (son of Jackie) Stewart and is the one driven by Martin Brundle in his DVD.

Rowan Atkinson has just the one F1 AFAIK with purple leather and he didn't write it off - he only did £100,000 worth of damage...
