A bloke down the road has just bought a new Merc - huge thing - don't know the model and it's silver. Thing is, his trade-in was the previous model also in silver.
Late 90s Motor Show at the NEC - every single car ion the Audi stand was silver - on a nice wood floor if anyone remembers. the stand looked the dogs ...
Have seen a Lexus also not in silver as a lot of them are but in a greeny type silver - very nice - just as Merc (?) do a car in a purpley silver? Bit like the Dulux paint - white with a hint of apple or whatever, this is silver with a bit of purple or green? Anyone know what I'm talking about?
Maybe it's my eyes ...

It has become very common and the defacto choice on many cars-I think its popular because cars are made of metal and silver is a "natural" colour for metallic objects.
My parents first silver car was bought in 1982 and it just looked so modern and futuristic compared to beiges and reds and blues of the time.

Did anyone see the article in the times where a company has formulated the technology to change your car colour at a touch of a button?
If you have a smart car, you can change the panel colour anytime you choose, very easily and cheaply
My current smart was silver first, then red and now is pistachio green. The replacement panels were £175 on ebay.

What is it with all these Silver / Grey BORING cars!
I counted 100+ on the M4 yesterday between J12 and J13 whilst going the other way last night. Same thing this morning.
Only Silver car would have to be a 1930's Auto Union or Merc race car otherwise buy a COLOURED car!
Why buy a silver car? Please explain as I don't get it.
All the new Police cars trawling round London seem to be in silver....I imagine there may be slight drop in populariry for the consumer if this becomes widespread.

My Audi S4 is metallic grey.
<snip>
I hate metallic grey.
Why didn't you buy the best colour then? Nogaro Blue. Gorgeous on an S4.
Well, a. because it's a proper 300bhp 5-cylinder 100 S4, not one of those little new ones, and they didn't do them in Nogaro, and b. the damn things are so rare you don't get much of a colour choice pre-owned.
Looked at an S6 the other day - racing green - nice - look closer - not metallic - euch.
I'll say this for grey - it's quite stealthy.
