5th gear did a race around a circuit 911 (with Tiff) against an RAF Lynx helicopter - the most agile in the world (they claim).

Didn't see that one...

Sorry to be a pedant but the RAF don't have any Lynx at all, they belong to either the Army or Royal Marines (If green and grey) or the Navy (If bluey Grey)
and it's not the most agile of helicopters, although a stripped out Super Lynx does hold the helicopter world speed record.

Thanks for listening.

Am constantly surprised by the number of PHers who seem to have it in for Clarkson. Alright, he's a bit of lad, he's opinionated, he's got an ego, etc., but he is a COMPLETE PETROLHEAD, and one of the rare presenters that is allowed to voice his non-PC views of telly.

So what's your problem, and is it so severe that you'd rather never see him on telly again?! If it's that big a deal don't watch TG and vote with the off switch, but don't watch it and run him down aswell. It would be boring telly without him IMO....

I was on a Clio 182 Cup press launch yesterday up at Manchester. As part of the gig, we got to have a nose around Concorde. There was a short promotional video beforehand of Concorde's last flight with a bunch of celebs getting their gurning mugs in front of the camera.

As soon as Clarkson appeared on screen the whole auditorium was filled with boos and hisses. Petty jealousy is such an ugly thing.

[edit] Guy still can't drive for toffee though.

He's a lot better driver now than he was when he started! I would rate him 'above average'.

In total agreement – it’s amazing he’s still on the Beeb considering his anti-Bliar stance so why knock someone on our side?

I like Clarkson, even though I speak as a diesel driving once-caravan-owner brummie.

I've read him since he first started in Fast Lane (was it?) magazine and he still makes me laugh now. He's done well.

But a Hercules on a beach? Come on, that's a wind up, surely?

Bit off topic , but Jezza was at the Nurburgring a few weeks back filming a piece for the new series of Top Gear . I'm told he was trying to do a sub 10 min lap of the Ring in a Jag diesel with the help of Sabine , the crazy girl that drives the Ring Taxi .

With HELP being the operative word. I.e. she drove the 10 minute lap and he ponced around being filmed.

As having been on the show in the last series with the nasty 'vette on.I can honestly say that all the presenters are down to earth and polite people. The calls of people being 'sycophantic'in the crowd, may amount to the fact 'they' have been standing for 6 hrs and by the end of filming want to go home,so humour the same take 6 or 7 times does get a bit tedious.
As for the 'behind the scenes',Iaint, you are kept to round the hangar and thats about it,unless your mate can sneek you somewhere. The Stig is not there at the time we are there and he might do the times in the morning as filming starts at 1pm 'til 7pm.

Well, good luck to Jeremy Clarkson. A thoroughly entertaining chap and a big softie at heart. Hot cars in his drive - and 3 pet donkeys in his paddock over at Chipping Norton.

The emotion some PH'ers seem to diplay is pure jealousy. Nothing more.

The locals at Pembrey always were a moaning lot. When I used to strafe, bomb and rocket the place a few years back in Hunters and Hawks, if we went more than a few inches too far beyond the railway before starting the tip-in, they'd be on the phone complaining.

Damn Viet-Taff!

At the risk of being labelled a lentilist, Clarkson is the subject of "Who do you think you are" on BBC2, Tuesday November 2nd. so we might get a glimpse of what maketh the man.

what did you think of the 182 Cup? Most people think its a waste of space as you only save £600 lose most of the gadgets and gain little or no performance.

Here we go again. Someone, i.e. me, expresses an opinion which differs from most and it`s because I`m jealous? Sorry, but I`m not. I used to like him, but he just grates now.

Still, nice to know that the anti-truck brigade out there are just jealous.

No that was the 172 Cup. The Cup spec on 182 is an upgrade ... £200 extra gets your cup suspension, "tweaked" steering, different alloys etc. All the toys are the same.
