40 minutes of the programme given over to the farcical 'race' to Oslo. The Aston was awesome on track, but hello? Where's the content?

Top Gear is going downhill faster than Alberto Tomber.

That'll be relatively slow whilst doing a slalom through a set of gates then.... now if you'd said Franz Klammer on the other hand...

I remember him driving a black 348, although I'm sure that was one of many!

I didn't see anything wrong with his driving, there have been enough posts on here lambasting stories in the press of people being pulled over by the law for drinking or eating a mars bar whilst driving. He just proved it makes no difference whatsoever. No different to turning up the volume on the radio, lighting a cigarette, sneezing, or pointing at a lovely horse in a field and going "aaaaah".

Quite right. Has Clarkson ever bumped into anything?

Dang, WE got a repeat of an old Top Gear:

Overly long race in a ridiculously expensive car which if you had one, you'd fly by private jet anyway.

Fart in a done to death car

And....was there anything else? Oh yes, an irrelevant DBR9, on for the second time, where they once again failed to mention the Corvette's LeMans victory.

The battle of the £1500 coupes, last week, was a great piece but this was just a rerun of worn out ideas. Frankly, I'd rather have seen him do it in Civic Type R or a car we can relate to. No, I'm only joking, please not another race across the world.

Why didn't they race both Astons around the track? They knew that the DBR9 wouldn't have been allowed to go on the leaderboard so why not try the DBRS9? Would it have scuppered Clarksons chances of getting an F430 in the next 2 years if the Aston had knocked the Enzo off top place?

...and how long was Clarkson asleep? If it was 6 hours then it was hardly a race!

Decent episode.

The race of car against boat seemed a bit more interesting than the last race they did.

I would agree though that they seemed to be lacking in originality this episode.

Edited to add, and what is it with Top Gear and Alfa Romeos

You would have to be insane not to buy one in that price band?

It is a decent looking car, but personally I prefer the looks of some of it's competitors and you might want a reliable car and not to be treated like dirt by the dealer network.

OK lets spice things up a bit! Is Clarkson helping the cause here?

[Victor Mode: on]
Plans to drive 1200 miles without a break, takes hands off wheel to open crisps, eats while driving, tailgates a nova (driver not upgraded to a micra yet), drives till he is absolutely shattered, "60 ish" in a 60 in Sweden
[Victor Mode: off]

oh! but the SLR

...and he had how many accidents?

He got into a bit of strife over bumping into a tree a few series ago...

Quite right. Has Clarkson ever bumped into anything?

I am starting to think these things aren't straight races. The camera men seem to get a lot of good "arty shots" in tunnels, stop at the same fuel stops and garages etc. Either they have a convoy of 200 mph cars, or employ loads of camera teams??

And did you see that arty shot of him in the tunnel hammering it and in the background a SUV came crawling past

I think Jeremy drives out with a dash camera then all the arty drive by shots are captured on the way home.

So he would be going the wrong way on that fantasic bridge then?

He was tailgating a yellow Monaro. I suspect that may have been the camera car.

I thought it was a good episode. Not much car reviewing going on but the race was entertaining enough and the DBR9 was brilliant. And as a bonus Clarkson's driving will no doubt drive the lentalists crazy.

Heh, I'm going on what one of the researchers for Top Gear explained about the logistics of the 'race'.

Didn't Clarkson mention he flew home on the show, so I would guess that a someone else had the very mudane job of driving around getting all the shots. The bridge shots were done by helicopter so I would have thought the time consumed in getting those shots wasn't inconsiderate in itself.
