To be honest, it wouldn't matter much what car you drive from UK to Oslo.
You take the mondeo and I'll go in an SLR. Want to make a bet on who gets there first?
I've just checked the Clarkie route. He had it as 1320 miles, going via I think Odense in Denmark.
I've just checked my usual route planner, and it says only 1030 miles, going via Lubeck in Germany, and using a 45 minute ferry.
Dunno what rules Clarkie plays under, but in real life, I'd have used the 45 minute ferry. Saves 290 extra miles.
The irony of the race with the SLR & the ferry is that we all know full well that nobody spending £250K plus on a car such as a Zonda, Carrera GT, Enzo etc actually drives the bloody thing in excess of a 1000 miles a year, let alone a round trip of nearly 3000 miles, for fear of destroying the residuals.
Heard a story recently that Jimmy Saville has a 355 (I think) & since last year when he had it serviced, hes only travelled 40 miles !! (by the way he lives 20 miles from the dealer, do the maths).
Would have completed the race far quicker in something like an Audi A8 TDI since he wouldnt have had to stop every 19 minutes or so to fill it up.

Yeah ok. You supply both cars. I'm free in a couple of weeks.
A tenner says a Ford Mundano does it faster. About 80 % of the journey is in speed limited countries. A Ford Mundano is much more inconspicuous at going fast.
On UK motorways, I've never seen a Porsche 911 doing more than 65 mph. Wish I had a tenner for everytime I've seen a Vauxhall Tedious doing 90 mph.
An open letter to all the Killjoys on Pistonheads:
Top Gear is a television programme, it is there for pure entertainment value, and even if the race in this weeks' episode was fixed it was bloody funny. Myself and my fiancee sat there laughing our socks off at the three of them and their antics. The sound of the SLR was superb. I cannnot think of another car related programme on TV that is half as entertaining as TG and if you don't get Clarkson's sense of humour you should have stopped watching weeks ago as its the same every week. The DB9R was absolutely incredible around the track and everyone knew from the moment the three of them clapped eyes on it they would implore everyone to buy one...
Let's not keep bashing the best motoring show on TV with the same old worn out stick every week - please...
Cheers,
Steve.

Speed limit for Norway is 90 kmh.
General speed limit in Norway is 80 km/h, and 50 km/h in more densely populated places.
The E-6 which runs all the way from Svinesund (The bridge on the border to Norway) all the way up north has a speed limit of 100 km/h in all the places where it has four lanes and 90 where it's just two lanes. Unfortunately our minister of transport must be related to Richard Bronstrum in some way... (Hence the speed limits...) I wonder how he managed to go that fast without being nicked, the UP is very active on those streches...
Allthough I (As a norwgian) enjoyed the programme...
BTW; The Norwegian word for "Oh Cock" is "Å faen...[Fa-an]!!!"

It's not that simple in real life. Break the speed limit by a lot, and in many countries they take your licence off you and or impound the car.
Do over 170 kmh in France, and if they catch you - its game over big time.
Add in Belgium and Netherlands at 120kmh, Denmark at 110 kmh, Sweden at 110 kmh, Norway at 90 kmh and we can easily see that even travelling flat out in a diesel Mondeo at 120 mph will get you into big trouble.
BTW, I estimate the range on a diesel Mondeo with it's 13 gallon tank and 50 mpg, gives 650 mile range. Which means only one fill up on the Calais to Oslo run.
I don't have numbers on the Mc SLR, but I guess about 10 mpg, and maybe a 100 liter tank, giving a range of maybe 220 miles, if you don't too mad with the loud pedal.
This is four fill ups on the Calais to Oslo run - three more than the lowly Mondeo, which is way fast enough for non-German roads, and would keep up with most traffic on the autobahn as well.
Hello real world !

Now that's not actually true, is it?
Thinking about it, it's not. I do remember once isolated incident of a Porsche 911 doing more than 65 mph on the UK motorway.
I did once see a lady driving a Porsche 911 at 75 mph in lane 3 of the M1, while lanes 1 and 2 were empty.
She was tailgating a Range Rover.

Top stuff.
Am I correct in thinking that the only bit of non motorway on the Norwegian section is the bit from near Sarpsborg to just before Karlshus ?
Not that I'd ever get to go there myself, but it would be nice to get my blue biro out to colour in a bit more of my map ;->

It's the bit from the border (old) and about 5 kilometers in where it's just two lanes, the new road (Not yet opened when TG went there) has four lanes all the way from the swedish border and just past Oslo airport Gardermoen...
