On UK motorways, I've never seen a Porsche 911 doing more than 65 mph.

Now that's not actually true, is it?

I can vouch that I've driven a porsche 965 turbo faster than that on a UK motorway

... the lowly Mondeo, which is way fast enough for non-German roads, and would keep up with most traffic on the autobahn as well.
All I can say is that you don't drive fast enough!

Dunno what rules Clarkie plays under, but in real life, I'd have used the 45 minute ferry. Saves 290 extra miles.

He could have had his sleep then

Oh I dunno. Personal best 145 mph in the BMW 530.

The Jaguar XJ8, the MR2 and the Lotus Excel I've had them all flat out at their respective top speeds [ 140 mph, 135 mph, 130 mph].

Thousands of miles at over 120 mph.

Swift enough ?

I've still got 7 mph to do on the BMW. One day soon.

I also wondered why Clarkie went over the Zuider Zee.

Any fule kno it's miles out of his way.

London, Dover, Calais, Brugge, Gent, Antwerp, Eindhoven, Duisburg, Munster, Osnabruck, Bremen, Hamburg, Lubeck, Copenhagen, Goteborg, Oslo for those not on telly in silly cars, surely ?

Tchoh !

I can vouch that I've driven a VW Type 2 Transporter Devon Eurovette conversion faster than that on a UK motorway............

but not by much, and it was on a downhill stretch, and I had been flat in fourth for the last 100 miles or so.

Edited to add that in theory the repeat is on BBC2 tonight at 7pm. (London situation and scheduling permitting I guess)

That is the TG repeat, not me waddling down the M5 in a Type 2 veedub naturellement mes braves.
