RE: TVR boss buys a bike company
Discussion
I saw a benelli as in the picture on the motorway this morning, looked very nice and seemed to have a pair of fans under the seat?
Still cannot see much market as most happy with jap bikes, or a Ducati, MV, Aprilia for something a bit more exotic not to mention Bimoto.... seems like a very competitive part of the market...

Fans under the seat?
What the designer did with the Benelli was to try to reduce frontal area and therefore drag, to increase the top speed. He did this by mounting the radiator under the seat, instead of in front of the engine as normal. The fans are simply there to ensure the thing won't overheat. Apparently it's nice on a cool day, but hell when it's hot. Warms yer cockles, you might say.
They do seem well put together when poking around one of them, but I'd rather have an MV Agusta anyway. As said in earlier posts, I would have thought he'd have spent the money on fixing the reliability issues with TVR before buying more problems. Maybe he's got a plan......

Cool. I just hope there's going to be TVR bikes as was the speculation a few months ago. I'll have to get one. That said they'll have some way to go to make anything cooler than the new Triumph Speed Triple. Benelli are the other manufacturer to make a big thing of the three cylinder bike engine (best of both worlds apparently world 1 being the torque and tractability of a twin, world 2 being the power, revs and smoothness of a four)
I agree though it's a shame more money wasn't invested into TVR instead.

I suspect that BMW will probably rush out and buy Norton now and produce a sharp-handling bloated cartoon copy of the Commando.
Wasn't that the MkIII Interstate?
Oops, sorry, you said 'sharp handling' as well as bloated...

i no longer care about anything - I'ev found out that Suzuki ARE going to make the B-King so Im very happy. marvellous news! (utterly irrelevant to this thread but I had to post it somewhere!)
whats one of them then
Concept bike from Suzuki based on the Busa. Saw them in a magazine a few years back, looked awesome. Never thought it would see production.
Think they were looking at 1500/250 BHP
One mean looking mofo of a bike.

There are a couple of nice bike-derived V8's at the moment, imagine a V8 2 litre bike with 300+ bhp ! Sounds like the bike that TVR would build if they had a chance, leapfrog the Hayabusa and gixxers in one easy step.
didn't our man Mellings design one for Norton?
I believe he drew a few pictures and thought of a horsepower figure for them... Allegedly.
That seems like an awful lot of money to pay for such a small company. Still, I'm sure he knows what he's doing...
The NCD website obviously hasn't been updated for a while, but have a look here for a bit of info about the V8 bike engine www.mcdeng.co.uk/html/melling.html
i really love TVR's but personally i think this is a bad move for them, after all they have very stiff competition and Benelli arnt really very good anymore, unless they manage to work miracles,as i biker myself i can see them getting left for dead by the R1s,GSXRs,Fireblades and Ducati 999s of this world,i think TVR should stick to what thier extremly good at-building beautiful, noisy and very fast cars.
