No it's something the major german manufacturers (excluding Porsche) came up with. 155mph = 250kmh. A nice round number.

The same thing happened in Japan ie limiting bikes power outage, then they threw the book away and introduce the Hyabusa

Well along with the studio audience nicked from Drivel and the slightly strained format @ 1 hour long. What about the items 'borrowed' from Sniffpetrol - the photo of Michael Schumacher in a Panda costume was from the German Grand Prix issue and 'the star in a reasonably priced car'feature is similar to the 'stars in cars that have names that are a bit similar' feature.

But even with these minus points it was still great to see the series back, it made me and my brother laugh numerous times and kept us entertained.

Well as I've already said on the TG Poll thread, I quite liked it.

Obviously I don't know what they've lined up for the rest of the series but they're on for a full hour so as well as the traditional tele road tests and track tests it would be good if we could get some proper debating going like inviting ABD reps to debate with speed kills muppets, MPs .etc. JC interviewing both sides (speed, green issues, public transport....).

Off course the BBC wouldn't let that happen.

p.s. John A on the first page suggested Stig is Damon Hill. I like that idea! If any car goes sideways for a sustained period then Tiff.

domster said: Hmmmm, JC may be an entertaining character but, believe me, he perhaps doesn't necessarily deserve to be the patron saint of all pistonheads...I met him recently, and although pleasant enough, I think this was because we had a mutual friend, not because we both had petrol coursing through our veins. Indeed, I got the distinct impression that if I had been an adoring fan he would have given me extremely short shrift...he spent most of the day being a bit of a grump, and only chatted to his obsequious hangers-on (not dissimilar to the coo-ing studio audience, as it happens)...his ego drives him as much as his passion for cars. When his ego has taken over (chat show, celebrity mates etc.) he has produced some dross. When he sticks to the cars, he is superb...Like the man for what he does, but I'm not sure all of you would like him for who he is...

*Interestingly, one of his Top Gear magazine flunkeys saw the pistonheads.com sticker proudly displayed on my car, and gave a little smirk (presumably thinking it was an off shoot of the Max Power Corsa Club or something). He asked me about it in a sneering, rather than interested or enthusiastic way, presumably trying to get some brownie points and Jezza's approval. Very sad that motoring journalists think they are above the grass roots enthusiasm of a superb community like this. We're the ones that buy their magazines, although I'm not sure Top Gear mag has a lot going for it.

Cheers

Excellent post, Domst; dunno how I missed this.

Wow; this sounds seriously interesting. I've often thought about what a chat with JC would be like and your experience was thus, significantly illuminating!

The hangers on bit sounds bloody awful; he has become a legend in his own mind, by the sounds of things which is desperately naff but then, any of us might react similarly.

The bit at the end about the sneering, supercilious journo on spying the PH sticker is another fascinating insight into media luvvie bullsh1t egotism obscuring reality; there MUST be some of our much loved magazine writers looking in on us every so often; surely PH is an integral part of any hack's terms of reference?

From what you've said here, I'm now going to propose that chap (Ian?) Fraser who writes 'Broadside' in EVO each month. Far too mature and right wing to ever sell out - I think!

Toodle and indeed, pip.
