Not better than, just has a high RON rating.
Could still be crap fuel. (but more than likely isn't).

(unless of course you are in Germany or Italy were the equivalent "V-Power" is 100RON and 99RON, lucky buggers!).

The lowest octane rating it could be is 98.8 otherwise they are breaking the law...

A customer of mine tested a sample of a certain 98RON fuel that shall remain nameless and it came out at 96.5

Since there is only one 98RON fuel its not to hard to geuss!

I can well believe though.
My Griff pinks when pushed on Optimax at the mo but is fine on other 98s ("IP Plus 98" from Italy and all those sold in France).

I work at a oil refinery and thought you might ne interested some facts (which you may alresdy know): 1. Most refineries do swaps, ie all sorts of supermarket and other major oil companies road tankers load at the refinery I work at.
2. The additives (for individual customers) are added at the 'bulk plant' (where the tankers load). Which additive is used by which customer (and which additives are best), I can't tell you...... because I value my job and pension.
3. All petrol is not the same, ie some refineries have 'cat crackers', cracked napthas tend to gum/varnish engine internals. Not really a problem in 2007 as these tend to go into blends for 'third world nations' who aren't so fussy about certain components of the fuel. The example of the cat cracker is just one of many.
4. Petrol/diesel blends in summer are different than petrol/diesel blends in winter. For example winter diesel has up to 30% jet fuel in it!!! (Think about it, less demand for jet fuel in the winter and jet lowers the 'waxing problem' diesel has in very cold temps).
5. Be careful if you are buying 'synthetic' oil as companies that further process normal oil can now call in 'sythentic'.

Info about Tesco 99 RON - actually supplied by Greenergy

www.greenergy.co.uk/products/99_octane.html

There's a list of locations selling the stuff too.
