See all that stuff wot you wrote aboot the Macca and espeshally aboot your impovireshed calculashuns aboot build/sell numbers n'at?....It wiz totally f*ck1n magik! (and I'm in complete and overwhelming A W E!)hehe

Going to Villa D'este? Wanna have a coffee with Jim? byebye

I'm afraid that you've got me puzzled.
The only Villa d'Este that I know of is the one where Bernard Berenson lived. I've not been there and have no particular reason to visit.
The only Jim I know lives in NY; I was not aware that he was going to Italy.
I don't drink coffee.
But if you can clear some of this up, I'll think about it.

Villa D'este...www.concorsodeleganzavilladeste.com/inglese/cde/default.asp

Och hell, I'll even pay you in! hehe

Jim from NY?.....P4/5?.....Car is rumoured to be there however I know Fezza's bring you out in a rash. Not sure if Jim Gl will be there in person. Sorry if this is even more obtuse.

Beer then.hehe (in a really nice little restaurant I know...near my home.)

Meet you at The Stelvio?

All of the above come with a non-stalker/ pure-enthusiast caveat. Should be a good weekend.

Got you. You were referring to an event, not to the real place. Fair enough.
No, I wouldn't be going.

I was referring, by coincidence, to a different Jim from NY.

Anyhow, thanks for the suggestion. I'm still a bit lost, but that's normal for me.

Well, if this is number 3003, that would make FB's latest 3002, which would make BF's 3001, which would make the one just before it, but after FB's first, #3000.

The new wheels are in the process of being manufactured. After they're made they'll have to be tested and then painted, but I would guess that they'll be ready for installation by May.

Over the last few months we've made quite a bit of progress on other elements of the project as well.
We now have a pretty good idea what we're going to do with the brakes (major reworking), and the improvement that is within our sights is exciting (at least to my tiny mind). Most of the suspension stuff is either done or in the final stages (still working on spring and bar rates and damper settings).

Flemke, glad to hear that the new wheels are near ready for you. You'll have to post up a picture to show us all!. Also, could you please enlighten us all on your plans for your braking system. Are you going to go down the ceramic route with things? If not, do you think that technology has moved on that much as to make a considerable differance over the standard items? ( Assuming that they are the standard stoppers on the car and that you haven't already had a tinker with them hehe ).

What are you doing may i ask to the suspension sir, as from footage that i've see of the F1, the car really noise dives under track related breaking. Is there a particular reason for that and do you think that's due to McLaren trying to make a good balance between road and track use at the time of production?

Sorry if you've already covered these items in previous pages.

Seconded, and Flemke, you do realise that when it is finally finished, you're going to have to attend some kind of official PH unveiling with the car as I, and many others I suspect almost feel part of this project.

John,

I can't really go into the braking details, because some of them are related to patents pending (not mine) and others are related to private business plans (again, not mine). I would be betraying confidences to say much about it.
The other thing, about both the brakes and the suspension changes, is that I'm of two minds regarding how much to say, privacy issues aside.
On the one hand, I'd be happy to talk in great detail to any other (non-F1-owning) PHer about everything that we have learned and are doing with the car. That's the fun part.
On the other hand, I would rather not share any of this with F1 owners present or future because I don't think it's any of their business. I've said this before, so apologies for repeating myself, but after the very considerable amount of time, energy and money that I've put into this, I don't see why I should give it away to people who have a lot more money than I do and who obviously have not themselves cared enough about the car to make a similar effort. They're on their own.
If one of them were to propose to make a substantial contribution to charity in exchange for all the information, that would change my mind.
Since you asked about ceramics, I'll say this - you can't really use carbon/ceramic composites without a servo, because their coefficient of friction is not high enough. You can't put a servo on the F1's brakes without violating the car's ethos. Ergo, carbon/ceramics, for which I once had high hopes based on some misinformation from "experts", are not a proper option.
There are a couple of elements of braking technology that have moved on in the last 14 years, and we will be exploiting at least one and I hope both of these. Suffice to say that the potential is there to improve substantially the car's braking performance.

The standard car's suspension is quite soft, which accounts for the nose-diving. (It does have anti-dive geometry.) The ride is remarkably comfortable. I'd say that they tried to make a great GT car. They certainly were not aiming to build a pseudo-racing trackday machine.
Mine's a lot stiffer than standard, so the diving isn't pronounced anymore.
In toto, we're changing a great deal of the system: you could call it a "Stage 2" suspension programme.

Cheers.

Derek,

I don't know about that.scratchchin

I've thought of a couple of possibilities, but am not sure of whether to do anything.
I'm a fairly private guy and I'm not sure what the point would be anyhow - just to have a car sitting there with its engine cover open can't be that interesting.

We'll see.

Easy fixed; white overalls and helmet with tinted visor a la Stig (yes I know you're not a fan)

I understand your desire for anonymity, but I guess sooner or later a PHer will run into you somewhere. (Quite likely already happened). I hope they respect your privacy.

I know or have met quite a few PHers through the years.
It's a bit different when there's a whole group of folks and they're converging on the car you're in. boxedin

I had thought about that and it's why my initial post was made firmly tongue in cheek.
Perhaps bring the car to a Virginia Waters style meet, so you're not the only thing that people are focused on?
