It has a Hi Stall Torque Converter from Summit Racing (USA) at the back, and between that and the engine, lives an epicyclic gear train from a Leyland Leapord bus (doesn't everyone have one?). Because the engine redlines at around 2,500 rpm, the gear train generates more power. It 'accepts' 1 rpm in (from the engine) and pushes 3 rpm out, back towards the torque converter, to ensure that houses stay vertical.
Aha. Most cunning. So it's kicking a "mere" 425lb/ft ish to the transmission through the torque converter rather than the full 1200+.
Also means you can run a more normal gearbox as well I suppose.
Clever stuff.
Correct, less torque, more revs. The box is an XJ-6, from the 1970's. Strong enough..

Its at the Stoneleigh show this weekend, and we want to take it to Bruntingthorpe. It'll be running anytime soon I guess. The big issue at the moment is getting brakes which will make it stop.
hows about a transmission brake off a truck?
I was wrong earlier, we've changed the set up. The front discs are from a Merc ML320 (calipers yet to be sourced) and the rear set up is now now Wilwood NASCAR.

Charley got it years ago. It was from a company in Norway, which bought a job lot of Centurians tanks off the Swiss for breaking them. He's got a couple of readers doing similar projects, always nice to know insanity is spreading.
This is incredible! I have posted this over on Rovertech.net - most of us are owners of more "modern" Rovers (mk2 200 types) but everyone is interested in the older ones too.
Can't wait to see and read more on your progress and hopefully see it in the flesh one day.

Flicking through the 'whats new' bit after wondering in from a long day out, I thought that someone had mistyped 2.7 litre ... then thought why's someone putting a 2.7 into a Rolls?
(Brain seriously isn't working right now).
That, Sir, is going to be an incredible machine.
I only worry that the amount of torque that engine must generate won't do something serious like snap the prop.
I'm sure you've done all the numbers and would love to see them if you feel up to posting one day.
