Agree with Combover on this,
the real world is not a fun place to reside. If I'd taken the sensible route over the years I would never have bought my first 'performance car' way back when and I would never had had so much fun.
Yes you do need to be sensible with money, life etc. but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't live life as you want to ( within reason

well i class myself as a petrolhead , and i love the idea of caterfields , elise etc , but practicality has 2 feature and being 6ft 2 and being built more for rugby than gymnastics it would be an impossible dream ..lol
If i could fit in an elise that would definately be my next car infact i would go and buy 1 2 morow , but getting to work and having to roll out the door has a certain ...well ...doesnt look 2 gr8 ..lol
Targa Tasmania is pretty much exactly what we are discussing here, fastest point to point in all weather, drivers obviously play a big part in these results, as they would in real life, however it still makes interesting reading.

Having recently sold a 996 tt (x50) I can inform you that it is BLISTERINGLY quick point to point, and unlike the EVO it isn't ugly
As to which is quicker - well it depends on the roads. Through the Cotswolds it would be an even match. Through the West Highlands of Scotland (with wide long fast bends), it's the 996 X50 every time. Evo isn't even close (been there, done it).

As to which is quicker - well it depends on the roads. Through the Cotswolds it would be an even match. Through the West Highlands of Scotland (with wide long fast bends), it's the 996 X50 every time. Evo isn't even close (been there, done it).

I will second that, although I might be slightly biased!!
I own an impreza wrx which prob comes a close second but i would have to agree the Lancia delata HF Intergrale Evo 2 is still the best point to point car especially in the wet. I would love one but the scooby was my second choice and i'm glad i got it.

i think an FQ400 would hold its own against a 996 Turbo, 0-100 it would probably even fare a little better,driven an FQ320 not a 400 and the way it cornered was great,certainly better than the C4S ive driven but then i dont know how much difference there is in handling between the Turbo and the C4S
Why is the Noble not mentioned more here? In the magazine A to B test it was faster than the Porche in the dry, and only slightly slower in the wet. As to the Evo, well I love them, and even had a deposit down on an FQ330, but I drove a Noble and after 300 yards I knew I would be changing camps! The Noble is faster than the Evo, wet or dry, the only time the Evo would enter the frame is on rough tracks or slimey surfaces where you wouldn't want to thrash your P&J anyway. Most drivers aren't up to driving really quickly when conditions are bad, it's called survival, and no amount of 4x4 and electronic wizardry is going to turn Joe Public into Sebastian Loeb. I think, "in the real world", the same cars that are fastest on track are the fastest on the roads.

Why? It's not like he doesn't know what the car is capable of. Just because a car has four-wheel drive does not mean it is capable of being pushed down a road any quicker than a very well sorted and friendly rear-wheel driver. I severely doubt whether 90% of drivers could make the supposed advantage of a four-wheel drive car stick.
Besides, it has been shown just how good the Noble can be in both wet and dry conditions on Britain's rural roads.
