BP Ultimate 102

Race fuel is fine if you're racing...but if you're on the motorway, or driving in to town, it makes normal driving pointlessly expensive!
I think thats the point. Its amied at people going to track days and stuff, not the average car user to sit on the motorway with.
If people are willing to spend 70-80K on a track day car (911 GT3 ect..) then £2.40 Ltr is not a huge expence.
Well, good luck to BP and all that, but a few thoughts spring to mind:
- The F1 fuel regs are derived from current and proposed EU road fuel regs, so it's meaningless to boast that this fuel meets the F1 regs.
- If there are business sensitive reasons for not promoting BP's link with an F1 team, then the press release shouldn't refer to or leverage BP's involvement. Very poor form.
- If anybody buys Ultimate 102 thinking that they're buying F1 technology, they're being duped
- If BP's F1 fuel is similar (in terms of composition and properties) to this Ultimate 102, then they have significant scope for improvement.

Shirley if I WAS going on a trackday and decided to try some wouldn't it have been a bit more sensible for BP to supply it at their nearest filling stations to the major UK circuits????
I'm not likely to fill up at Newbury for a trip to Silverstone cos I'd arrive with about half a fekin tankful already burnt!!

with any luck a fuel boffin can confirm/deny/explain this...
but my understaning is that fuel "goes off"/loses it's potency the longer it's left etc etc so at £2.47 this flipping stuff will end up being worse than asda95....!
Depends how well its kept but that is a good point.

after a chat with Mr Flibbers (works for BP) he said (re boffins @ BP) that the fuel does eventually go off, but only after a few MONTHS not weeks...

I wonder what work would say if I filled up with that on the fuel card
Perhaps not
But as pointed out earlier, like the Tesco 100 you can't buy it anywhere up north anyway.
There are a few Tescos around Leeds that do the Super 99, so I guess there must be some over your way.
IMO BP already makes the best fuel for roaduse: most economic, most silent and most smooth / powerfull.
For a fridaynights speedcruise-I-want-to-win-every-stoplight-dragrace it would be ideal. Big price though . . . and why would you moan about that when you're running a Rari, Scooby or Sag?

They're very keen on feedback from PHers. I had a meeting with them recently and PH is their target market.
Really it's aimed at track day users, but the stations serving it are dotted about with only Bedford Autodrome and Brands Hatch having any close by. Those should be the two outlets that prove the most interesting for them.
Some feedback then......
It is FANTASTIC that BP are supporting motor sport and the much battered and maligned sports car enthusiast, and this is to be applauded loud and clear. The intent of this move makes me WANT DESPERATELY to support BP and use their products.
BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR BP....
However I reckon that they would garner more support and indeed make more money and have a wider impact by also providing something analogous to Shell V Power (available on the continent) which is (IIRC) 100 Octane and only a little more expensive than 95.
I am 1000% prepared to pay a few pence a litre more to buy Ultimate 95 rather than supermarket rubbish, I am also 1000% happy to pay a few pence a litre more for Ultimate 97 than Ultimate 95, but I WOULD BE TEN THOUSAND percent happy to pay a few pence more again for V Power or its equivalent. A recent trip to France fuelled by a few tanks of V Power had my base 911 feeling like it was running on a mix of rocket fuel and pure smooth whipped cream. Lovely!!!
A sticker inside my Porsche filler neck says "at least 98 Octane Super" which I can't get (Optimax is 98 so I am afraid I tend to use that at the moment with Ultimate 97 as the backup....)
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BP can we have a 100 Octane V Power equivalent to use every day for a few pence more that Ultimate 97
If you were to provide this V Power equivalent here for, say 105p/l then I am sure that pretty much every PHer would gladly shell out (geddit?!) for the extra couple of quid a tank and use BP fuels exclusively.....
Good effort though - I'll be buying an "Ayrton Senna's" worth today, just to see

A 140% increase in price for a potenial 16% increase in power is a bit of a joke.
How much would it cost to increace your car's performance by 16% through other methods though?
Certainly no point for most of us to run this - my car's mapped for Optimax and using race fuel would make no difference.
