This thread's five years old.

Have a read of how it started - as a welcome, applauded introduction to an automotive service sector.

While the mods might want to clamp down on some of the utterly inappropriate naming and shaming that has been added to it, for a professional to defend their brand in the face of this is hardly out of order.

Some **nker keyed my lovely black Porsche Boxster last night frown the scratch is quite deep and pretty much the full length of the door...I live in Bristol and would like some feedback on ChipsAway/other similar services in my area..

I'm realistic and appreciate having a ‘touch-in’ job isn’t going to be as fantastic a finish as a re-spray, but I park on the street at night and this is likely to happen again, so would like a convenient, reliable and good value option if possible?????

I’ve read about touch-in jobs not working well on Silver cars, but i’m hoping this isn’t the case for black ones!!?

Thank you

I contacted Chipsaway over a month ago, spoke to a receptionist who said she would get an engineer to contact me. Shortly after, I had a phone call from the local man, who took details of the problem and promised to send someone round to look at the car. After a week during which nothing happened, I phoned him. He said they were very busy, and could I bring the car in! I thought the whole point of Chipsaway was that they came to you, not vice versa. He said it would help if I could send a photo of the damage, which I did. Since then I have heard nothing. I emailed him saying I proposed to relate my experiences on a forum, and asked if he had any comments. No reply. I have now found another firm which does small repairs in situ, and actually does them when it says it will. No more Chipsaway for me.

Chipsaway are only interested in selling franchises and only give 3 weeks training. All body shop panel beaters do a 3 year apprentaship. 9 out of 10 franchises fail in the first 2 years. FACT.

I used Chips Away in Cambridge and although first impressions were good (I dealt with the female boss) I picked my car up after it was fixed (They had the car all day) and the work carried out was way below par.

They were supposed to repair the rear bumper of obvious damage but failed. I pointed this out to the chap and after he made excuses (no need, just say we cocked up!) he booked it in for the next day. This meant another day off work (this is a working private hire vehicle) which I was not best pleased about.

In their defence they did a great job second time around but the car was covered in white dust inside and out. Second repair 9/10 but Overall 4/10.

Would not use again!

I guess it depends on the damage and the person doing it.

Mine today, Mark in the Kent area, did a great job.

Had a "trolley-rash" repair and 2 wheel refurbs done in 2011 in RG12 area - very pleased!

Then last year in the same area I had a scuffed sill sorted, and once again really happy with the result.

Credit where it is due!

the problem is if you pay these guys a good job then the countdown timer is just ticking to another bash.

Especially with kerbed wheels.

I got my scratch done and now i am paranoid aboutscratching it again. Not worried about the other side of the car !

Solved that problem - had my second one done so I could sell it! Not my countdown any more!

Today Got a quote per crack on my front spoiler of my smart fortwo £160.00 LOL LOL LOL unfortunaley I have cracked both sides, so assume £320.00 BIG LOL LOL. When I got it sprayed originally, which included side skirts and rear skirt, all had to be fitted also the bill was £450.00. immaculate job. I then damaged the spoiler again badly. It was all fixed invisibly, full respray for £80.00. My opinion STAY AWAY ... Get estimates from garages first. Their prices are OFF THE WALL. You have got it I am going back to were I got it fixed originally saving me a WHOPPING £240.00 yes saving £240.00

foGeorge III Papa Johns and Tank Rizo, uninformed replies by all of you. Have little to do but make inappropriate comments nothing to do to a valid post.. First ask why the damage dont assume. For information First damage due to vandals kicking the car, Second damage due to roads in South Ireland causing front spring to break and the front of the car dropping and hitting the cars front spoiler. I can drive properly for your information, never had penalty points or an accident and 61 yrs old,, I hope all of you can say the same..
