Interesting thread.

I have to get somebody out to sort a nasty chip in a freshly sprayed panel on my car and a dent/scuff on my wife's car.

Bit worried now after having read this though, there seems to be no way of telling whether they've had the basic 10 days training or if they are a complete expert...

By far and away the best thing you can do is get some feedback on the operator local to you that you'll be using from previous customers. Identify him/her by name, as there can be several different ones working in fairly close proximity. A post in the appropriate regional forum on here might be a good starting point. Alternatively, asking ChipsAway Head Office for the number of the nearest operator to you with the MirraClear system on board will mean you get someone who's not fresh out of training.

If you've got a large chip, the repair options are likely to be either a touch-in with a paint mixed to match the damaged panel (quick, cheaper, effective protection, but can be minimal cosmetic improvement, particularly on high-metallic/pearl finishes), or a full repair - flat out or fill the damage, and then a localised sprayed repair (a much better finish, but more expensive and time-consuming, and very often not suitable for being completed on a mobile basis if the damage is on a roof or bonnet).

Many thanks CG.

It's on a vertical panel, non-metallic black. It's chipped the top coat and primer and is back to the original top coat underneath. I'll do some more digging.

Mod edit;

Hayley, you joined the site barely a few moments ago and in doing so you agreed NOT to "name and shame". Please do not.

Hi
I don't know if this thread is still active but i will give it ago anyway
I have a new audi a3 in brilliant black
Recently i have managed to reverse into a wooden horizontal pole (even with parking sensors ... don't ask)
Upon inspection i have noticed that this has left a few small chips in my rear bumper
As i am sort of a perfectionist i was wondering if you could help me
First of all i was wondering how much this would roughly cost to fix? using a company like Chipsaway having done my research

Cheers for any help

Hi, I've got a 2001 silver Fiesta, it's got a few little rust bubbles here and there, can Chipsaway deal with these or is it a full sanding down and spraying job at a bodyshop?

They recently did a few rust bubbles on my 2003 Vectra.

Superb job and reasonable price.

Why not give your local franchise a call? They will come out and give you a free quote in my experience.

cheers, at least I know they can do it. I'm in Winchester and Chipsaway have a workshop in Basingstoke so I'll go and get a quote, get the bumper sorted at the same time.

There is a small garage in south croydon that does all the paint work to my cars after mum has been paralel parking at night or day time.

Very serious guy who worked for bentley for 20 odd years and his work is very very good . Worked on all my cars and never charged me silly money either .

Alot less than 400 quid for a full bonet respray ( is that really good value ?)
Always has keyed porsche's and bmw's in the yard . Guess its true what they say about the drivers then

Anyone recommend a good Chipsaway guy in Manchester?
Yes, Alan Murphy 07832 211444. If memory serves, 20+ years in bodyshops before becoming a ChipsAway operator.

I am thinking about using a ChipsAway guy from Lewisham for the scratches and grazes on my silver 996. Has anyone had any experience with this guy? What come back/guarantee do I have if I am not sastified with the work?

Thanks.
