Awesome awesome awesome.

Always loved the Ultima, and the best thing is that its not one of those cars that is a wild dream in ££ terms.

I want to know what ring time it can do, as I think they were looking at this last year. Do they race them?

Hope to see one at Le mans again, will just have to watch it at Houx roundabout this year

The Ultima is not a 'kit car', it is a self assembled supercar and it comes with all the new parts necessary to build one literally out of the box

err..surely that means it comes in the form of a kit of bits n'est pa? Self assembled is just some fancy marketing pap for kit car :-) Bit like a window cleaner being a vision technician..;-)

I think the distinction he is trying to make is that the Ultima is complete whilst your traditional kit car requires (as he says) a second, donor vehicle to build it on? I don't know if this is the case, I know sweet FA about kit cars or self assembly cars...

Still with performance like that, why would you care if they called it a shitemobile smacllcock 1000?

Indeed. The one in Evo magazine a number of months back (CGT on Autobahn, Ultima on IOM) looked the dogs danglies...

For the money it is truly amazing really. If you build it DIY and save some dosh, then invest in some alacantra to cover the bare metal and make it feel "luxury" inside

I guess on a drag strip others come close, but on the road the torque and flexibility of that big NA motor must pay HUGE dividends in speed!

I want one now too...

Now if you'd gone to the open day last year and seen the interior of the black one.........

Can somebody post a picture, please, because that interior was fantastic.

Wow, that's quick.

I would love to know what distance was covered in the run.

Brings a whole new meaning to a "10 second car".

C

0.12375 or just under a 1/8 of a mile by my calcs

based on an average acceleration worked out from the times

100 mph = 160 kph = 44.44 m/s

0-100 = 5.3 s
100-0 = 3.6 s

0-100 av_acc = 8.38 m/s^2
100-0 av_acc = -12.34 m/s^2

0-100 dist = 118m
100-0 dist = 80m

total = 198m = 0.12375 miles

is that right ??? its been a while

Well done to Ultima it is good to see an English company doing the business in this record.

The car is impressive but it would be difficult for any full series production car to compete. The Ultima only has to pass much lower emissions standards, no crash testing, lower standards of fit and finish and much less equipment expected.

I find it strange that they seem to refuse to take part in anything except when it is done by their rules? Why not take part in the Autocar test which runs each year and always has a selection of hypercars and bonkers track machines?

The Sunday Times thing was generated by a comment about acceleration in an article and they wanted to do a 0-60 challenge to settle it! Why would they then do 0-150 which isn't a commonly done performance test?

As for the Atom's tyres, well Ariel would say publicly that they couldn't understand the fuss! I re-read the article last night and apparently the journalist took the sizes from the sidewalls and phoned up the tyre manufacturer. They confirmed that they did not make a road tyre in that size!

Congratulations Ultima

We should all applaud a British company sticking it to the rest of the world (err even if they are using a yank block).

However it isn't fair to compare any low volume SVA approved car to a mainstream manufactured car. Given all the money in the world Ferrari would struggle due to crash and emmissions regs.

Any of us given a bit of cash could start our own low-volume car company in the garage, buy a tuned Chevy LS7 off the shelf and bolt it into a lightweight frame. The only requirements for success are that it is light and can get the power down.

Although 0-100-0 is an interesting comparison it is only one facet of a performance car. If Ultima are going to stick their neck out like that then they need to publish some other comparison data e.g. Ring times.

OK, some have said the asthetics of the Ultima are 'hideous', others have suggested it'll be even quicker with some forced induction.

How about a replacement body:

and a forced induction Chevy lump:

Need to get it on Top Gear and see how it stands up on the test track.
This would be a good advert plug for Ultima too.

This is the interior of mine, no bare metal at all, just leather and carbon fibre

It's not bad from the outside too (and more carbon fibre)

For the record, it also has remote central locking (with motion/shock sensing alarm), 600W, 8 speaker AV system with voice guided European-wide sat-nav, fold out touchscreen and vehicle dynamics display (AVIC-X1R), CD-Changer, DVD player, iPod interface, reverse camera, air-con etc.etc. Head unit not shown in pics.

I specifically built the Can-Am to be as user-friendly for road use as possible. So far, it's worked a treat.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me, the F40s I've seen look more kit-car than kit cars do! Oh, they're slower and lower spec. too (and I'm talking about genuine F40s!).

Forced induction already features on several Ultimas, my previous GTR had a .383 (6.3l) supercharged motor pumping out a lowly 630hp

It's pub talk anyway, you don't need more than 300hp in a road car and even that's pushing it.

If you don't believe me, I'm happy to offer test drives to willing vict... errr... passengers

Aye wasn't keen on some of those others, bit too bling or dihorrea brown wouldn't be my choice. But that is just about spot on...!

Would still have conventional dials though, good for seeing the rate of change of the value if that makes sense

Forced induction on one of those would be mental! Wonder if it really would need it though... will it be that much quicker even upto 150mph??

Thanks chap I went for the 'less is more' approach, with comfort and practicality in mind.

I chose the Stack setup as it cleans up the dash alot and I prefer having all the info directly in front of me. As for seeing the rate of change, on full bore, the needle on the Stack can't keep up! . The Stack is also incredibly accurate and has the option of lap timing etc. I can cycle through the modes with buttons just behind the right hand control stalk - oh yeah, mine is also one of a very few that use control stalks instead of toggle switches and buttons

Isn't every car a kit car assembled from a specified program of parts?Ford,Vauxhall,Fiat,Ferrari ect. build one after another on a production line at a purpose built facility by robot/trained fitter. The Ultima is built by the owner thus cutting out the middle men.I am not sure what sounds better, Kit car or D.I.Y. car? Based on the afformentioned statement,I think the latter is more pertinant.
