Stig's Ultima is Love that basic look . . . that light brown leather one Check out Flemke's interior: pretty basic as well. It just fits the product so well. Like early Miura's and Countach's . . .

Not a bad word about an F40 though, check the vid and pump up the volume.

WhereTF is his helmet . . . or was he just running in? Hairdresser . . .

Edit to say: I was referring to the light brown leathered Ultima . . .

I'm lost a bit today . . . . or am I just a bit too busy . . .

I took a long time to decide between leather an alcontara (had alcontara in the GTR), but the alcontara fades like buggery when exposed to the sun and that's an unavoidable fact in the Can-Am. The leather is superb though and is easy to wipe clean (for inclement weather and soiled underpants)

Alcontara is indeed a nice(non shiny) racy material to cover things, and looks great... but as you mentioned in a can-am not realy a smart thing to do
Also alcontara when used intensive like on a steeringwheel, will be not so nice anymore after using it for some period!! I had such steering wheel(race) and when you use no gloves your hands make it go bad...? the acontara raw effect goes bust? difficult to translate with my poor english sorry for that, but my lesson for at least the steering wheel in alcontara is, I would not buy such wheel anumore...but dash and sidepanels etc are very welkom

Alcantra(sp??) is a nice material for seats. My ikkle Pug306gti had them and with it in the middle and then smooth leather bolsters they really held you onto the seat, especially in denim! It's like nice looking velcro basically.
Looks nice wrapped on the roll cage bars too, to give them a soft matte look.

Would be a bit naff on the steering wheel. I often wonder how an M3 CSL wheel looks and smells after having many sweaty plams pressing on it!

That's why they use leather for the bolsters, the alcontara isn't very good at 'rubbing' wear and tends to break down and go bobbly (which is what Rene meant I think )

It's not too much of a problem as you tend to drop 'into' the seat of an Ultima from above, rather than sliding in from the side. Both have their merits (and look great), but leather was a better option in the Can-Am. It's an absolute pig to trim with though compared to Alcontara!!!

Awesome machine, love it! Keeps getting faster.. Why not enter TOTB with this? Must stand a good chance even against some of the nutty tuner motors.

Today I was sitting side by side with a Suzuki GSXR1000 in a traffic life. When the light turned green, I floored my car and the biker floored his. In a matter of 3-4 seconds, he disappeared out of eye sight. Wouldn't I give to beable to own this GTR or or the 640, and above to out accelerate or keep up with that bike off the line then burn it once we hit 150+mph. This car is just amazing. I just can't think of any 4 wheel vehicles in the low 100s USD that can match this performance.

Without wanting to annoy some people on here, why the bloody hell would you bother with carpets and leather everywhere? I have always prefered the bare metal look and the simplicity this represents. Making the interioir more lavish would be the last thing on my mind when driving one so I can't see why you would bother.

Of course, doing that in an Ultima would find you in the nearest hedge.

Doesn't every Ultima have traction control then?

Horses for courses. Plenty of Ultima's have minimal trim in them.

If you want the 'stripped out racer' look, it's fine - but try living with it! Bare ally is a pig to keep looking neat. I also think that exposed rivets etc. don't exactly help the 'kit' image.

There's a world of difference between wanting the 'dream' and living with it. You soon learn to appreciate the creature comforts if you plan on using the car regularly on the road. 'Supercars' not only have to perform, they need to look special too. Bare panelling doesn't really do much for the aesthetics in this regard and I can't see a carbon tub Ultima appearing anytime soon (or ever).

- all IMHO of course.

Hehe, go from a leather steering wheel to a plastic pretend sorta one. Yuk. No weight difference, just quality... though you really notice it and wish for the quality!

Aluminium floors and parts? Several VX220 owners I know start to do theirs up with carpet and fluff to make it a warmer more comfy place to be. It's not needed but on a freezing winter morning it can make some difference!

Look at a TVR. Would they be anywhere near as appealing without those lovely interiors?

I think a nice interior is even more important in such a car, the compromises it already has for road use puts more emphasis on comfort, which allows you to enjoy it more often, which can only be a good thing imho.

There is nothing good appealing about hardcore stripped cars for the road imho, they are just naff bargain basement horrible things. Fair enough if you don't use it often but imho a car is meant to be used as often as possible and enjoyed. A comfy interior lets you do that more often which is a good thing imho.
Obviously keep it reasonable, no cushions, and certainly not like the latest Zonda F interiors I've been seeing, but tasteful alcantra just to make it appear comfortable is a good idea.

Just my 20p

I suppose it's all relative really and purely down to the choice of the individual owner, that's one of the reasons that I chose to have an Ultima. The 'world record' acheivements mean little to the people that own the cars as the statistics are only relevant if you buy an exact copy of the GTR720 and most have a different spec engine from one owner to the next. The interior trim levels are very important to some and not at all of interest to others.I find it very interesting that so many owners have so many different opinions about the quintissential important Ultima ingredient yet we all share the same conclusion; ULTIMA RULES!

I think they could do with a name change - Ultima sounds a bit naff and tacky IMO like something out of 'Transformers'.

I'd say, don't judge the trim by some photos, the interior suits the car, and the leather actually smells nice - once you've polished it up, though I agree it's a bit retro...

It's also a pracical colour, it helps cover up those little accidents that terrified passengers have!

Indeed, brown just wouldn't be my choice, though owning the car full stop certainly is one of the finest choices to start with

Yep, tis a practical colour too. With 50-150mph times like those I guess accidents are actuall a real worry with some passengers

It's a Porsche Getrag gearbox, hence the Porsche gear knob. Came as part of the package. I'm sure Stig will change it for a neon skull design next time he's passing halfords
