RE: Ascari KZ1
Discussion
The price tag is quite understandable when you look at a production run of only 50 units and quite some development effort for this car. Looks preety neat, especially on the pics under the link above from factory visit. Would I buy one? Let me decide after I drove it against Carrera GT, Zonda S, LP640 (which is supposed to be a monster), 599...

All completely different cars . . .
Fully agree that they are very different. That's what I need to properly understand the profile of the Ascari and what I actually like most...
Regardless of price and just based on the car. I think I still prefer an F430 over this. To me theres more charisma in the Ferrari which so many other supercars fail to match. Much as this car is amazing in every respect, and as much as I love the Gallardo and the Ford GT etc, the Ferrari has and always be my favourite make of car and one which I will have to own before I die.
One thing is for sure.
This car is a pig by my standard.
Since when supercar manufacturers decide to call 1.3 ton a lightweight?
Is that mean McLaren F1 is so skinny that you have to call it F1 lightweight?
I really don't know this word games that supercar manufacturers playing nowadays.
1.3 ton is really fatty ass supercar.
But nowadays supercars are so heavyweight, it may be proper to call 1.3 ton car as slim
or lightweight

I think the niche that the KZ1 sits in is often overlooked - I would class it as more of a super-elise than a true supercar although inevitably its contruction, power and of course price will lead it to be directly compared with the supercar heavyweights like Pagani and Koenigsegg.
As has been mentioned in an above post, the car is an everyday supercar in that it is perhaps more refined and compliant and less "edgy" than some of its contemporaries. It's an excellent car, but not in the traditional way of "poster on a boys bedroom wall"

The KZ1 is truly an amazing car, fantastic design and amazing performance, if only I had the money! But keep an eye of its true performance in the FIA GT3 Championship (www.fiagt3.com) where is it up against the pedigree of Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, Dodge, Chrysler and Maserati.
Actually now you mention it, I think it was the back of beer mat and not a packet of cigarettes as original thought.Once again I stand corrected.
Regardless of where and how it was designed, I do think the KZ1 is a good looking car and far better in the flesh than pictures would have you think. It's a shame the price issue always seems to raise it head for while the Ascari may not entice the poster brigade in the same way that a Zonda does, when you compare the quality of workmanship and finish the Ascari easily competes, and for 2/3s of the price. The car may not have been the quickest at VMAX but the results at the Top Gear track, where it beat the times of the Zonda, Ford GT, Mclaren SLR and Koenigsegg, show that it's more than capable of holding its own with the big boys. IMO of course.

I've never been lucky enough to see the Ascari in the flesh despite having been been to the Race Resort a few times, but knowing Klaas's obsessive attention detail, uncompromising attitude and not inconsiderable engineering talent I'd be suprised if it's anything less than awsome.
Is it worth the money? Like anything it's worth what someone's willing to pay for it, and whether it's expensive or not depends a lot on where your perspective is coming from. Is a Van Gogh painting overpiced just because you can buy a Picasso for less?

Well, it's not really a fair comparison, as the organisers have repeatedly said they will handicap the different marques in order to equalise the racing.
