PS a like Retro but will it srvive if something like CCC cant ?
i hope so!!! although i understood its heritage i never really got into CCC though Retro Cars could almost be aimed entirely for me!!!
another great mag (imo) to go to the wall was 'Le Mans Series & Sportscar Racer' which was excellent for sportscar fans though only lasted a year before the plug was pulled without warning...
A while back I was talking to Dan White (ex editor of redline) about why they felt the need to put porno-tat in their supposed car mags, and why couldn't they be more like CCC and feature real cars and proper tuning.
His reply said something like "I can't see CCC being around much longer anyway as they're too specialist. People don't want articles about cam timing and so on, they want tits and arse, with a few cars put around the place"

What a shame. I learnt a lot from CCC, and in the 80s they had some great articles - Ayrton Senna goes Rallying & Andy Burton's Alfa Ferrari being two good examples.
But other good mags have gone out of business too - my fave was Sports Car which became Performance tuning and Sports Car, very competently written and I still have a lot of them.
Hopefully somebody with integrity will start a new magazine that takes over the mantle of CCC.

According to the Evo folks themselves as per what they wrote in their 50th issue, Performance Car got swallowed up by Car and the former PC staff was disposed of at the same time, so they found a backer in the form of Harry Metcalfe and started their own mag...
As for content, ECOTY = PCOTY which pretty much sums the rest up, too...

Unfortunatly mate Laxxy power is the biggest selling mag by a very very long way, somat like 250,000 circulation on the ABC figures, whereas EVO is approx 64,000.
But 250,000 is still a long way short of the ABC cerified figure of 361,859 for Motoring and Leisure (the CSMA Magazine). I think I made that point in my very first posting, how could you forget?
I used to subscribe to CCC in 1967 and purchased copies before that. I've dipped in over the years but it appears to have become too inward looking and it has lost its sense of fun. I well remember taking on their Gold coloured Mini Sprint Traveller in the traffic lights Grand Prix and demonstrating that 1275ccs of tuned A Series motor was insufficient to humiliate a tuned 2.2 litre MGB. I am of course far too mature to indulge in such things these days!
I'll miss you CCC but at least I can tell my wife that I have listened to her and intend to buy fewer motor magazines in future. Worth a few Brownie points?
