Salt water immersion or fatal accident too. Insurance companies' greed usually gets the better of them though.

As above, theres nothing to prevent a CatB or anything from being returned to the road, apart from the dealers contractual obligation.

Theres a lot more to knowng about the subject, than copying and pasting from the ABIs website...

Don't know whether this is considered a mute point or not but can you still get finance aswell as getting it insured on a Cat D car?

I seem to think you can't? Or a case of just don't bother?

Hi from del

I have spent all morning goin in circles.

Looking to buy a Class 'B' after engine flood damage and Insurance Class 'B' . Engine has now been rebuilt / replaced, and called A F insurance, who transferred me to another company Call.... who were supposed to insure it.

All they wanted to know were all my personal details etc, but nothing really about the car. Marketing List fees obviously sought, so rather than tell them what I had for breakfast, said Thank you bye.

DVLA had said call VOSA. VOSA transferred me all around & back to MOT section who said to contact DVLA if engine has been changed. Again I asked could it go on the road. He was rushing to lunch I think as He repeated DVLA.

Again DVLA confirmed they have no requirement to be notified of anything other than Class 'C' or of new engine number.

So folks it seems only the Insurance companies show concern and finding one seems a minefield.

ANY ADVICE OR SENSIBLE INSURANCE COMPANIES input would be appreciated.

Regards

Del

Have you had a VIC check completed?

Following this you should then be able to MOT the car and insure/tax in the normal manner

'Can it go on the road?' Certainly, but youll have to pass a VIC, as you would if had been a CatC loss.

With regards to insurers: if they don't ask you needn't tell them.
