My first post!

After a good value trickle charger that can be used as a normal charger too.

seen this one http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/Store/Product/P...

Any better value ones out there?

Cheers,

Max

I'd go for that one. Got one. Used it. A lot. It's great.

Apart from the half-decent thread resurrection...

I've had two CTEK battery conditioners since the mid-90s when they were (I think) first seen at car shows and in catalogues as a relatively new product. One of them finally gave up the ghost earlier this week, no longer conditioning the battery but acting as a slow 'short' across the terminals, taking the voltage down by approx 0.1V per day.

Not bad, 20 years' service in regular use from one CTEK unit and the other one is still going strong (touch wood). I replaced the dud with a £25 job from Halfords as a matter of convenience. It claimed max 0.75 A charging current and was said to be OK when left connected to a car long-term. It got my 'declining' battery back to 12.75V in a day. No harm done either on start-up and in a test drive, so cost-effective applies.

My rather expensive MXS 10 Ctek just went "Bang!" yesterday.

I took it off my car to run the recon on another battery and it (the charger) lit up like a prop from Frankenstien's Monster complete with sound effects. I thought I was about to get fried.

Hardly used, no knocks or ever dropped and also just out of warranty.

That's a tough one being just out of warranty, sorry to read about that.
