Was just watching this on Dave, Clarkson is a total pain in the arse and May basically does it all on his own.

Does anybody know the real story behind this? Somehow I doubt the 3 of them did it in 6 hours or whatever with no outside help to get the car to a roadworthy condition.

I would imagine it then got stripped down completely and rebuilt properly?

Or was the whole thing a complete Jackanory?
Yes, have seen that some years ago. A shambles and silly in extreme. His TopGear Tallness is a rabid spanner phobic and that probably explains why he rarely lifts a bonnet on the numerous cars in his show. Featuring more under bonnet detail would enhance the programme no end for this enthusiast rather than simply quoting "torques" ...:?:.... 0-62 times, Max revs and bhp.... That's kids stuff!

I'd bet a few quid Clarkson has NEVER read a copy of Car Mechanics ~ latest issue June 2009 out now ~ always a good read.

Considering the huge and usually unseen back-up staff and other resources the trio have at their disposal, even six hours would be a remote possibilty ~ using that back up. Maybe May and the rodent could complete the job without Clarkson's 'help' reasonably quicky ~ but would take a lot more time just the two of them. A lot more time than six hours .... to do the job properly.

As a lifelong Transport enthusiast for the best part of seven decades, I get as much pleasure spannering as driving .... plus, in so doing, one can save a nice few quid and be more certain that the job has actually been done, and done well. Something not always guaranteed when you pay for the jobs in the best of establishmensts unfortunately ~ ..'appens.

I had to wait a month for the missing parts of my suspension! biggrin

and don't get me started on the front disc assemblies!!

its bks as I said above - but its fun bks biggrin

Knowing that the Caterham mechanics who build these things every day of their lives, in the CATERHAM factory........with all the tools, and all the parts........take around 10/12 hours per car min.......

i'm pretty confident it wasn't done in six!!!

Well it was - but the car was already nearly complete.

Things like getting the Diff in........it just takes time if you haven't done it before....

They sure as well cut corners too, just look how much of a pig it was to drive, he couldn't keep it straight.

So yes, I believe they can do it in a day. Not particularly well but stil possible.

They probably would have seen the build plans, had some guidance beforehand so they knew sort of what they were supposed to do, all the tools/parts laid out correctly etc.

Apart from that, no doubt Clarkson and Hammond did their bit then filmed/edited the c0cking around bits for the TV to make it LOOK like May did everything etc.
It was completely scripted. I loved that show but it was FAR FAR more scripted than what people realize. They had a team of people come in - after they would go in front of the camera acting like they worked on it then a team of people from Caterham would continue to build it. The Stig didn’t really drive from London - just made shots of him driving into petrol stations and the thing at the end with the police which is the only way to fill the plot hole. It’s like that time in America at that gas station in Baghdad Alabama they claim they were run out by red necks A that was completely completely scripted, I actually visited that gas station. They got paid and had to sign NDA’s - but yeah that was all completely fabricated made up entertainment. Still love the show I just don’t take it face value lol

Off piste, but this is off WD’s web page.
Mike Brewer with cast of Wheeler Dealers.
( Mind blown).

NB: Most of these programmes are more fake that the TRUMAN SHOW.

I never knew Wayne Carini and Dave Kindig worked behind the scenes on Wheeler Dealers.

Second on left is Chip Foose & far right, his fall guy Chris Jacobs. from ‘Overhaulin’

All very talented in their own right... but somehow, I don’t think that this is the WD crew. scratchchin

TG would have the Goblins mob, Bernie & Leepu.
