Don't know so many people have a downer on this little car,.......... My friends mum has one ........ The seats are great, I chose to recline like a beach chair lol. ....... ride was quite hard which isnt for everyone, plus you really have to watch for potholes and rough parkin areas! Fuel consumption is somewhat crap ......we spent around 200 quid on petrol in 3 days, plus sitting at 4 to 5k revs on the motorway from 70 to 85 mph kills your mpg.....
Im looking to buy one, .....lol............until i can afford to insure a scooby! lol
I edited your post a little which should hopefully help answer the question in the first line.

You also forgot st driving position with your feet about 8 inches to the left of your cock. Oh and the overservoed brakes.
But at least they are not that common on the roads.

I think the interieors in 206's are hideous. Awfuly put together covered in green and blue horrible patterened cloth. I know black or grey is boring but would prefer that one hundred times over to elephant arse print.

Drive it and if you like it get one. Whilst it's good to get peoples opinions it sounds to me you have almost fallen in love with it so what's the harm in taking a look for yourself.

I know you say you're not keen on a Clio but I'd still compare the two, especially as i think the Trophys are getting a bit cheaper now and they have lovely seats.

Nice looking, but not that 'hot' a hatch and not especially reliable as an ownership prospect.

i bought a 2 year old 05 plate model with 15k on the clock iv now owned it 3 and a half years nearly and it has 54k on the clock now. its been a lovely car to own and i havnt had a single problem with it the only thing iv had to replace apart from service items is the lower arms which lasted until 53k which i dont thin is bad and probably the life was shortened by having lowered suspension and the poor roads where i live.
There is a lot of people that slate this car which annoys me. i admit its not the best hot hatch in the world but i find it a very nice car to live with everyday i use the car for quite a lot of long distance driving as well as b road blasts and find it is still reasonably comfortable and returns 33mpg on a long trip which i think is quite good although a 6th gear would of improved motorway driving.
As for the supposed "lack of feel" this car gets slated for i disagree with the right suspension and some good tyres (i have always fitted the original spec pirelli p7000) it is very confident and tight on the kind of windy b- roads i like to drive on and if your not afraid to rev it can keep up with quite a lot more powerful cars through the corners.
The only downside to the car is that i feel it lacks low down torque and really does need to be revved hard to get the best out of it.

to anyone thinking of buying one i advise you to ignore the poor reviews from others and go and drive one before you rule it out. i didnt intend on buying it when i roadtested it i was just wasting time waiting to pick a family member up from the garage, but after driving it i fell in love with it and a week later i was the proud owner and iv loved every minute of it since smile

Got to love the way there are a number of first-posters coming out of the woodwork to sell this car to the OP with long posts and similar writing styles. You can get so much car for £4-5k, why would you go for something that by all accounts doesn't match up to a 205/106/306 GTI for half the price?

Yes, lots of us have signed up from 206info to input our thoughts into this thread...woop dee doo.

There are better better handling Peugeots out there for your money. However, as has been brought up by certain members on the 206 forum, there's a bit of a difference from driving a 205 to a 206....refinement! The 205 is great if you want a car that has 4 wheels, good engine, seat and a steering wheel.

So, to the OP, if it's going to be an every day car you're going to want the comfy seats, power steering, cd changer, etc etc. A 106 is a step up in refinement from a 205 but the interior is cramped, the ride quality isn't the best either. The dash board is hideous too and you will definitely struggle to find one as standard too!

If you wanted to go for something less refined but on par with the 180 - go for a 306 gti-6.

As my username suggests, i also have 2 309's. Which of course handle better than my 180, but for every day driving they're not as good as the 180 and definitely not as fast in a straight line. The reason why the 180 doesn't feel like it has 180bhp is because err... they didn't from factory! Most put out between 162 and 169bhp. It's the same with the clio 182. Manufacturers like to lie to compete with each other.

The one thing about my 180 that annoys me is the auto wipers. Yes, they come on when it rains but they tend to have a mind of their own after that!

Why I bought the car: 14,500 miles, was suitibly modified to my taste, for me it came out to be cheaper than the other equivelant hatch backs.

After a year and a half of ownership, i must say, now and then i don't feel it's powerful enough. But on that dry day on a B-road - I guarantee it'll still bring a smile to your face and I have no desire to replace mine anytime soon!

yes i am a member of the above owners forum that doesnt make my opinion bias if i thought the car was crap i would of sold it a long time ago but i do genuinely like the car hence why iv kept it for so long and have no intentions of selling.
im just giving the honest opinion of someone who has lived with the car for quite a long time and many miles of enjoyable driving in answer to the original question.

My Brother and his wife love their 180. Sure it's not a track tool but it does manage everyday usability rather well. The auto wipers have been mentioned as a minor gripe.

The 180 felt like it had enough power and the seats are fantastic, my only niggle was the gearbox, which was particularly vague when selecting cogs.

WELL DONE FOR BEING DIFFERENT!!!!

If you like the way the 206 looks and enjoy the test drive then buy it and enjoy not being a sheep. So what if there are 'better' cars in your price bracket. You're buying this car for you, not anyone else. Get the car you want and not the car other people think you should buy.

Do you and Brian share it then?

Did you mean in your first post, about the 'lowered suspension' and then your comments disagreeing about it being vague 'if you have the right suspension and tyres', that you have fitted aftermrket suspension to your 180GTi?

Apparently very peaky, bugger all torque and a terrible clattery noise.

A few months later I drove a Citroen C4 by Loeb (same engine) and I was inclined to agree.

Well the thing is I already have a 206 1.6 8v which I do quite like. Therefore I'm ready prepared for the wobbly gearchange, crap driving position, and average build quality!

I used to work for peugeot and had to drive the gti 180, sorry but it was horrible the driving position means that it felt like you were realy high up, for 180bhp it wasnt particularly quick and didnt feel it, the gear box is like stiring a tin of paint lol,
4 assessments of the 206 from people who have owned or driven them repeatedly on this thread prior to the post on ilovemy206gti.com.

Ironically the only "my mate's mom had one" comment comes from the new poster who ressurected the thread.

Please do not use the Americanism "mom" on here, it is "mum".

Think on.
