Too harsh, I feel!

Have a look here: http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=162 and you'll see that, of the 22 cars we've features in SOTW in 2010, only eight are German. And of those, two - Mondeo ST200 and Calibra DTM - are arguable.

still, they do say that statistics can prove anything - and that 78 per cent of people know that... wink

If you count the MG as a product of BMW ownership of Rover. Then 5 out of the last 8 weeks has been of German Origin! :-) Im sure you will rise to the challenge..... I look forward to next week!

And if you count the last year's sheds of the week, German cars are the overwhelming majority - slightly more than one in three and almost double the next highest country of origin (UK). For every Italian SOTW there are 2.6 German ones!;)

Yes but you can't buy a house for £65k today (well not really), back then 22k would. Maybe not the house the owner would have lived in though! In fact 22400 would have been much more unreachable then than £65k today.

Like the shed though, I was offered a slightly older one of these with the more sharky nose for £100 a couple of years back, woul dhave complimented my SD1 Vitesse quite well.

There is a garage in Chudleigh near Newton Abbot, which has an E28 528i in 20 paces good nick outside, had to rush by before temptation kicked in, mind it would be more than shed money.

Interesting point.
I bought a house in St Albans in '84 - £27,000 (worth £300,000 now) my mate also bought a new RS500 Cosworth around that time £24k? not bad for a 25 year old - still has it but not quite the same investment !

This was my old car!

I bought it unseen from a guy in London and travelled back to Manchester with no dramas whatsoever, I drove it everyday through one of the bleakest winters weve seen in the UK

Apart from fitting those E34 alloys the only money I spent on it was £30 for a new viscous fan

It gave me no mechanical issues whatsoever and once it was warmed up it would run like a dream, power was totally adequate for a car of this age and it would certainly hold its own in the fast lane GP

The car did have the issues listed but I just thought, well the car was nearly 30 years old.......I wonder what would work on an Alfa or a Citroen of the same vintage!

I really hope whoever owns it now has as much fun with it as I did

p.s. the guy selling it here was really into the lowered suspension and wanted to fit humungous wheels to it ( wonder why he says its not to his taste? )

Anyone know where I can get this kind of infomation for my car?
Just bought this E23 735i and would love to find a bit more of it's history.
Is it worth just popping into my local BMW main dealer?

Yes - local dealer should be able to do it.

I popped into Vines in Guildford a couple of weeks ago and the kind chap on the service desk seemed perfectly happy to print out the spec for my e24. Turns out it's fitted with an LSD, which is nice!

ETA: take the chassis number in with you (on the V5) - it seems it's easier for the dealers to find spec info from chassis rather than reg number on the older cars, perhaps due to plate transfers in the past or whatever.

Great, ta. I'll give them a ring first and hope they're friendly!

Huge thread resurrection ! This is my old car, I was the bloke selling it and I took the photos and wrote the description etc.

I hated the lowering springs and desperately wanted to return it to stock. Unfortunately at the time (2010) I'd just gone self employed and quite frankly didn't have a pot to in... ! I bought it from a bloke in Macclesfield who was into making cars uncomfortable with silly mods so presumably he was the chap you sold it to and I bought it from... He had a V10 Dodge Ram as well as I recall... !

I'd love to know what this car is up to now, I sold it to a bloke in mainland Europe somewhere (possibly Poland or Lithuania)...
