i have just purchased a v6 MkII and i can tell you that this review is spot on in every respect!

i traded in a leon R with 300 bhp and 300 lb/ft.. this car would totally destroy the v6.. but thats not why i bought the v6, it is bags and bags of fun to drive , the noise from the engine is absoloutely immense ( especially as it now has an induction kit fitted).. going along with the thought that at the next bend the back end could step out certainly keeps the adrenelin flowing! It will be worth saying that you do have to push it fairly hard to get the back out .. snapping the throttle on the wrong part of a bend or roundabout is a surefire way of it happening, having said that in the dry it has immense grip off the lights taking it to 62MPH in 5.8 secs not 6.2, i reckon the 1/4 would arrive in about 14.6 as it does feel rather gutless midrange and as the reveiew says, you do have to wring its neck to get the most out of it.. it also features a cool shift light that illuminates on the dash as the redline approaches.

You do get open mouthed gawps from EVERYBODY .. not just the local chav.

The car is already hailed as a classic and with the limited number available it isnt going to aquire chav/pimp/drug dealer status ( scoobies for e.g)

This car is for people who enjoy a challenging drive .. not ones that like to be driven

At around the 27K mark, there are a lot of rally based monsters available. These provide more power, more space, better handling and more tuning potential.

Why anyone would to compromise the 2 rear seats for a mere 250hp is beyond me. If I were in the market, I'd take a Clio Sport 172 (or 182 are they now?) and keep the other half of the money.

Renault had trouble selling the MkIs, as a result you could pick one up from a dealer, new, for about £20k. MkIIs aren't much different in that respect. I saw one a few weeks ago for the first time in a long time, and it reminded me how low and wide they are...really very different to any other Clio.

As for a 'mere' 250hp, a Honda NSX has in the region of 276bhp, and they cost much more than the Clio. Yet NSXs are still extremely good cars. EVOs and the like are great, but they're a different type of car.

I've just bought a used Mk2 V6.
The reason i bought it over the other alternatives for the price tag was for its individuality & character. I could of got a mass market Scooby, Type r's etc, but i see at least 3 of these sort of cars a day. half of them with cap wearing boy racer types and the impression of a bag of **** look about them. I could of also went down the TVR/Lotus route, but i would'nt of had the faith that it would'nt keep breaking down on me. This car is a limited run, hand built car, with tried and tested components and a guaranteed future classic. this should keep its individuality. The first time i see one doing laps round the town centres with its 'ICE' blasting out the open windows, minds for sale!!
Official figures are 0-62mph 5.8secs 153mph.

Don't believe that, that's just the manufacturers 'gentlemans agreement', an NSX will have 300+ out of the factory....but I agree, 250 isn't to be sniffed at.

i see one in this week's autocar for sale: 1 owner FSH, 10k miles - £15k!? seems a damn good price for such a cool car.

i am almost - ALMOST - tempted to forsake convertible motoring ...

nice one dave,
Just reading Daves bit about the clio v6, he's dead right about it,
having owned the likes of m3's ,impreza's ,escort cosworth and recently an evo 8,
Ive ended up buying one and it is fabulous ,and I am delighted with it, I know it's a bit small and has an annoying turning circle but they are just great fun,
I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who fancies an unusual alternative to the norm,

iv been looking around different places and if you look you can find some for just under 10K, personally i think that they are quite nice looking aswell, the only thing that i dont like about it is the insurance group as it is group 20 :-( other wise i would have seriously have been considering one for my 2nd car( i already have a Triumph dolomite sprint). Still might do as i just love cars.

I love the concept of the V6. Something went missing in the execution though.

I drove one at the 'ring and sure enough the turning circle caused some annoyance in the carpark, just as reported in the press. On the track it felt altogether too ordinary. I was hoping for a vintage 911ish experience, but it just felt to me like my own Clio, only a bit heavier.

I also had a chance to do some informal tests against a V6 with my Ragnotti. Neither I nor the driver of the V6 expecte the cars to be dead even. Both in roll on acceleration and top end there was nothing in it. Dead even! I would guess that from a dead stop the V6 would pull ahead though due only to the RWD traction.

Damn! This really is an old thread!
